Help me with my Rear Axle

So I need someone to help me with some sort of diagram. I took my rear wheel off to get a new tire put on. Everything seemed to be fine but I think I lost a part. When I tighten the axel nut (the one on the shaft drive side (the 27mm one) it will just keep tightening I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can take some pics in the morning if need be or if someone can send me pics of how it is supposed to look that would be great.
