How to: Use FH016AA R/R on original location

It does fit now however, here`s the howto:

What I started out with:

Cut off both sides of the unit like below (on both sides of the thicker part), starting with the base plate as it might otherwise come loose (happend in my unit on one corner, but it still woks fine)

Make a brace (something like this or a bit nicer :rofl_200

, file down the bracket the footstep is attached to make up for the braces`s width

As the unit gets wedged between the bracket on one side and the frame on the other side (red line), the little hook is actually not necessary.

As for wiring:
The three thick black wires go to the stator, the blue/black one is the positive wire, black/white is negative. The small wire that`s left has no use.

Got 14.5V from 1K RPM to redline, working perfect!

Been testdriving it yesterday, the R/R gets about 5 degrees above ambient temperature. Maybe all the extra fin space I removed is necessary when there is no air flowing around it, but on the original location you really don't need it.

Hi,

Got mine for $49 from the US with $14 shipping to the Netherlands. The three stator wires can directly be connected to the three black input wires, the order does not matter.

Do the Stator wires run to the old R/R already?

Yes they do. So on old bike you just have to add the ground wire, on newer models, it`s just connecting it up (bit of soldering).

I like this, though if I'd have done it, I probably would have cut it a tiny bit too short, and hit the circuit board inside....

I'll have to check mine.....I replaced mine a couple years ago and it bolted right on with no cutting....I just used longer bolts....and grounded it to the frame and the battery.

Of course mine isn't flush to the frame as yours is.
