Eeee bealive me, there are more hard things to do in your bike :biglaugh:
Sure you can do it yourself.

For lashing check you need micrometric sensor and one screw.

For diassembling you need special tool to hold coupling gear.
I've made one myself from one bend driveshaft.

Get a good synthetic 80-140 weight. You need to be looking at differential oil and not motor oil.

Yamaha sells specific oil for the FJR 1300 and Vmax, is that 80W-140? I'm about to put in Castrol Syntrax 75W-90, but not so sure about it anymore.. I want same weight oil as the original.

Yeah, I only use the Yamaha stuff.

It's expensive but it takes very little. Bottle will do 2 or more changes I believe.

I bought Yamalube from dealer ($40 / 0,53 qts) and it says on the bottle that it is Yamaha Yamalube GL-5 80W-90, part no: 9079ESH002 (europe). It needs just shy 0,3 qts, so this won't make two changes.. But with two bottles you get oil for three changes and then some :)
