Generally at a steady speed. 60, 70 80;it makes no difference. The bike pops through the muffler as though it's running rich. Some times at highway speed (ahem) it will bog down and require a shift to third to clear her throat but it never lasts for more than afew seconds before a repeat is required. Fun for me me but it's getting tiresome for the wife who's stranded out back. Any thoughts ? Stage 7 Dyno Jet kit and a 4 /1 Kerker are fitted. Not sure how it was originally tuned but V- Boost is on. Runs great apart from it's innability to be smooth at ordinary speed for more than a half mile or so. It feels like I'm clearing the plugs of excess fuel when it bogs down and I ramp it up. All thoughts and wisdom appreciated. If it helps; it feels like the bike was set for drag racing; She loves flat out throttle but that's a little radar inducing around here :damn angry:

Chris.

More info on your setup???

Perhaps a simple shotgun proceedure to clear the carbs? Add a little SeaFoam brand carb cleaner to the tank for a couple tank fulls?

Yes do you know internal set ups????? Jets, needle position etc. should be able to get it super sweet at cruse.

I have the same problem as you. (Stage 7, pods, boost removed, w/ufo dragstar) I did the peashooter and it actually ran great for 20 miles then it was back. Your right, it's like your clearing its throat. Really though its just that it needs to stay above 3k rpm to smooth out some, preferable 4k or above for it not be as bogged down. I can hear the carbs sounding like they're flooded.

I still don't know what the problem is but it has been brought up that there may be a short somewhere that shows itself after the bike warms up. Like maybe a cracked coil casing that expands when warm.

If it runs great for a few seconds in 'cruze' mode, then begins loading up, my guess would be a float valve leaking over and overfilling a carb to change how it is sucking fuel at steady speed.

Don't know how these carbs would react if the little rubber plugs in the jet block assy were to be leaking profusely. Perhaps it's adding way too much fuel through there?

No obvious signs of a carb over fueling, No smell or indication of any leaks whatsoever from anywhere and I've certainly been very diligent in checking those area's out The bike almost seems to replicate "low fuel situation" like when it needs to switch to reserve but the fuel level is not the issue. I just ordered a new set of NGK Iridium plugs to see if they will help. In the meantime to those who asked; the jets are Dyno jet mains DJ150 and DJ 155, pilots DJ080, Needles DNT306, E clips DE0001, DSP044springs, DD #5/32 plug drill. The bike came thus equipped and I'm just reading off of the parts list and dyno test that came with it. I can't verify the accuracy of the above short of tearing down the carbs. The carbs are also wearing individual K@N free flow filters and V Boost is enabled. I must stress that this a minor niggle and not a major drivability issue but it would be nice to smooth things out some. Sometimes the bogging is a royal pain the arse and a smooth cruise is all but impossible most times. I should also add (if I forgot) that Max wears a Kerker 4 into 1 pipe that was described as giving the sound of a small block Chevy. My arse it does, sounds more like an 80's Cavalier four banger with a blown exhaust gasket mixed in with a wet curry fart.

Chris.

Thanks again guys,

Chris.

wet curry fart !! lol my dragstars have very nice stock car sound and at idle gives me the shivers and wood..
Not so the Kerker sadly. It has a very quiet idle tone and the previously described Raaaaaspppppp of a shart when gassed. Not horrible, just wimpy. I have the original pipes which have never been fitted to the bike and are immaculate but I don't care for the Serena Williams "fat arsed over the service line appearance" that it lends the bike. I'll have to read some more exhaust porn stories but I figure I'll be changing this pipe real soon. It has a nasty rattle sound also on throttle over run so I pulled the rear baffle plug and found a whole bunch of loose glass wadding in there. Looks like it has become compressed and is losing it's integrity. Not exactly what you would expect of a high dollar muffler but it'll make a useful hat stand.

Chris.

You can repackage that muffler and bring the sound down a lot.....

Funny stuff right there!:clapping: As Tugla stated, a repacking might help the sound issue. As far as the performance is concerned, your carbs are probably either crapped up or possibly not adjusted correctly. It sucks, but I would tear them all the way down and give them a good cleaning while noting what jets/settings are. That way you will know EXACTY what you have and the carb gurus can give you a better idea of where you need to be. Another helpful piece of helpful info would be your location above/below sea level.

No reason that exhaust and carb set up shouldn't run sweet.... I got same thing and it will cruise all day long smooth and haul the mail when need be......ie against punks lol

I bit the provebial "bullet" and splashed out on a set of NGK Iridium IS spark plugs. What a difference !!! The girl now pulls effortlessly from 3,000 rpm right through to the "Max" with nary a hitch and also seems to handle the amble with the local Harleys up the highway at a nice solid 75 mph without spitting up. (Harley speedo's are wildley optomistic). I mention this because a mate of mine is a State Highway Trooper and has yet to pull a rider over on a speed infraction. This makes sense since most of my mates at an indicated 90 mph are actually hitting 80. This doesn't seem to register very well on the SHWY radar system. I Had him clock me from 85 mph through 120 mph (as showing on the Yamaha speedo) and I was within +5 percent of actual speed across the range. Interesting.
Food for thought.

Chris.

Glad to hear you got it sorted! I wouldn't have thought it was the plugs, but it IS always best to start with the cheapest/easiest things first.

If it starts doing it again I would check your plug wires. That's what my problem was.

Thanks for your replies gents. Yhe new NGK's are doing me nicely but I should have noted thet the front right cylinder plug was showing a little lean; as in white at the tip. The new plugs have taken care of the "pop' but I need to check this out before I burn a valve. hair ck on the AF screw might be in order but I bow to your collective knowledge in these matters.

Chris.

Plug wires appear to be OK Pale, My bike seems to suffer after 5 miles or so when she starts to "cough" In high gear. A quick ramp down a couple of gears and all is well but it's annoying.

I'm not sure if this will help, But I went through this to man I started replace everything. Motor would run die down pick up back fire to. I have stage 7 jet kit and I run with the vboost open.

What work for me was pulling the carbs and cleaning them. I found white like dust and very small peaces gaskets in my bowls. I boiled my carbs in lemon juice only metal parts in the cooking pot. It clean the carb parts very good. But this is what I used - lemon juice. I put everything back together syc the carbs motor runs great. Dannymax the guy that has the cat picture told me to check the crabs. Something my be clogging up the carbs and he kinda walk me through it.

Your personal hygiene issues are very interesting but hardly relevant mate :rofl_200:
