Hey max masters.
I’m rebuilding the calipers and putting fresh pads on the rear of my ‘97 1200.

There are some metal triangle things with arrows on the back of the old pads. Should those be cleaned up and put on the new ones or left off?

caliper shims. thats the first one i have ever seen in captivity.

I would. both of mine seem to work without them, but you have them.

they are also called anti rattle clips they help keep noise/vibration down.

I do usually reinstall when available and also have used in the drawer too. But it's not a huge deal normally for them to be removed. I believe the intent was to help limit pad noise.

I ended up putting them back on. Much appreciated!

A wire wheel and paint job had the shims looking brand new. Gave the tabs a slight bend and they snapped right onto new brake pads.
The rear brake is back on, fully functional and better than new. One step closer to bringing my "back-yard-find" back to life.

Now: on the the larger task. Front brake rebuilds.
