HICKORY CORNERS, MI -- Rock legend Janis Joplin's psychedelic Porsche and actor Nicolas Cage's yellow 1967 Ferrari will be among nearly two dozen rare and highly sought-after sports cars in a special exhibition opening soon at the Gilmore Car Museum.

The cars will be part of "The Golden Age of Sports Cars, 1949-1967," which is to start Oct. 1, and continue until April 2017 at the museum, located northeast of Kalamazoo in Hickory Corners.

Joplin's 1964 Porsche 356 set a world record price for a Porsche 356 when it was sold in 2015 by Sotheby's Auction for $1.76 million.

According to information provided by the museum, Joplin purchased the car used in 1968 and had it painted in a mural design that includes psychedelic skull-like faces, mushrooms and floating eyes as well as landscapes, butterflies and birds.

She drove the car daily in the San Francisco Bay area and fans who recognized it would reportedly leave notes for her under its windshield wipers.

It will be a part of the exhibition here for only the first 10 days.

Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage once owned a bright yellow 1967 Ferrari 275/GTB 4 that will be on exhibit. It was purchased out of a dealer's showroom with the same horsepower as Ferrari race engines, according to information provided by the museum.

Among other rare cars on exhibit will be the race-inspired 1955 Mercedes Benz Gull Wing and an authentic Shelby Cobra 427.
