I'm having some trouble getting the oil level sensor out of my '85 (prepping for paint/powder coat). I have the oil pan off, I've removed the obvious mounting screws, but it doesn't want to come out. Inspection on the inboard side of the oil pan shows what looks like a snap ring around the base of the sensor...is it really a snap ring or am I seeing things? I tried to remove it, but it is in there tight. Before I get medieval on it, I'd like to be sure it really is a snap ring and must come out to remove the oil level sensor.

Thanks in advance for your help!

No snap ring inside. Just the 2 bolts and the wire clamp outside. The o-ring provides a very tight fit. Worked mine out by carefully twisting back and forth and pulling. I did not pry on the flanges to avoid snapping them off or marring the pan.
