Thank you Julian, that picture drives home the idea you're talking about. Unfortunately, in my application, I don't have a handy surface to lock in against. It will definitely involve some cutting and/or welding.

...and I do like that Aerotight nut. Looks expensive.

Yes, a quick search shows prices are 0.50 to £1 per nut.

Near to where I live is a place that sells all the fasteners you can imagine and a few you can't and they sell the aerotight for around 0.30+ depending on the size.... but they also sell these, which are 1/10 the price. (I've not come across this type before)

Luckily you won't need more than 2 of them
