radial tire lifespan vs bias type

I think it totally depends on the compound type of each and the riding style of the owner! My bias oem dunlop only made 6,000 miles before going bald, while my metzler bias has almost the same amount with little wear at all.

It seems radial are theoretically more durable due to the design of the tire itself.
But for sure Bob have a point. I observe that too with the Metzler.
Durability can change a lot depending on the compound.

I guess there is a reason why Michelin tires are more expensive but still hold that reputation.
 
NP Michael. From the other sites I read while reading up on the subject the compound does definitely matter. I did see that some gold Wing riders are getting a reported 30,000 miles out of a set of bias ply tires! I'm sure they would be for shit on our bikes, but it seems that the compound is a large factor if you are trying get the most mileage out of a tire.
I'm sure a guy on a Vmax could make those same tires last 3000 miles with enough abuse!:biglaugh:
