GARY HUBBELL - ASPEN TIMES WEEKLY

Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America in the last 100 years. Truly, he is the savior of America's future. He is the best thing ever.

Despite the fact that he has some of the lowest approval ratings among recent presidents, history will see Barack Obama as the source of America's resurrection. Barack Obama has plunged the country into levels of debt that we could not have previously imagined; his efforts to nationalize health care have been met with fierce resistance nationwide; TARP bailouts and stimulus spending have shown little positive effect on the national economy; unemployment is unacceptably high and looks to remain that way for most of a decade; legacy entitlement programs have ballooned to unsustainable levels, and there is a seething anger in the populace.

That's why Barack Obama is such a good thing for America.

Obama is the symbol of a creeping liberalism that has infected our society like a cancer for the last 100 years. Just as Hitler is the face of fascism, Obama will go down in history as the face of unchecked liberalism. The cancer metastasized to the point where it could no longer be ignored.

Average Americans who have quietly gone about their lives, earning a paycheck, contributing to their favorite charities, going to high school football games on Friday night, spending their weekends at the beach or on hunting trips - they've gotten off the fence. They've woken up. There is a level of political activism in this country that we haven't seen since the American Revolution, and Barack Obama has been the catalyst that has sparked a restructuring of the American political and social consciousness.

Think of the crap we've slowly learned to tolerate over the past 50 years as liberalism sought to re-structure the America that was the symbol of freedom and liberty to all the people of the world. Immigration laws were ignored on the basis of compassion. Welfare policies encouraged irresponsibility, the fracturing of families, and a cycle of generations of dependency. Debt was regarded as a tonic to lubricate the economy. Our children left school having been taught that they are exceptional and special, while great numbers of them cannot perform basic functions of mathematics and literacy. Legislators decided that people could not be trusted to defend their own homes, and stripped citizens of their rights to own firearms. Productive members of society have been penalized with a heavy burden of taxes in order to support legions of do-nothings who loll around, reveling in their addictions, obesity, indolence, ignorance and "disabilities." Criminals have been arrested and re-arrested, coddled and set free to pillage the citizenry yet again. Lawyers routinely extort fortunes from doctors, contractors and business people with dubious torts.

We slowly learned to tolerate these outrages, shaking our heads in disbelief, and we went on with our lives.

But Barack Obama has ripped the lid off a seething cauldron of dissatisfaction and unrest.

In the time of Barack Obama, Black Panther members stand outside polling places in black commando uniforms, slapping truncheons into their palms. ACORN - a taxpayer-supported organization - is given a role in taking the census, even after its members were caught on tape offering advice to set up child prostitution rings. A former Communist is given a paid government position in the White House as an advisor to the president. Auto companies are taken over by the government, and the auto workers' union - whose contracts are completely insupportable in any economic sense - is rewarded with a stake in the company. Government bails out Wall Street investment bankers and insurance companies, who pay their executives outrageous bonuses as thanks for the public support. Terrorists are read their Miranda rights and given free lawyers. And, despite overwhelming public disapproval, Barack Obama has pushed forward with a health care plan that would re-structure one-sixth of the American economy.

I don't know about you, but the other day I was at the courthouse doing some business, and I stepped into the court clerk's office and changed my voter affiliation from "Independent" to "Republican." I am under no illusion that the Republican party is perfect, but at least they're starting to awaken to the fact that we cannot sustain massive levels of debt; we cannot afford to hand out billions of dollars in corporate subsidies; we have to somehow trim our massive entitlement programs; we can no longer be the world's policeman and dole out billions in aid to countries whose citizens seek to harm us.

Literally millions of Americans have had enough. They're organizing, they're studying the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, they're reading history and case law, they're showing up at rallies and meetings, and a slew of conservative candidates are throwing their hats into the ring. Is there a revolution brewing? Yes, in the sense that there is a keen awareness that our priorities and sensibilities must be radically re-structured. Will it be a violent revolution? No. It will be done through the interpretation of the original document that has guided us for 220 years - the Constitution. Just as the pendulum swung to embrace political correctness and liberalism, there will be a backlash, a complete repudiation of a hundred years of nonsense. A hundred years from now, history will perceive the year 2010 as the time when America got back on the right track. And for that, we can thank Barack Hussein Obama.

It's so easy diss someone who has to deal with the legacy of a double-whammy of unchecked corruption and total disregard for anything but short term profits..

Those kind of articles make me laugh!

I respectfully reserve the right to disagree with your opinion. Besides GWB was handed the same from Slick Willy. We all know it is a vicious cycle with the average American caught in the middle and paying the tab.

Harry Truman inherited WWII, but he never went to the press & complained " I inherited this !" To the contrary, he placed a sign on his desk that read "The buck stops here." Now THAT'S a real leader.

The President of the United States does not get the luxury of placing the blame on his predecessors, that's grade school bullshit, this is the real world!

He said he could do it.....he was given the chance.....and he failed, that's the bottom line!! It's time to move aside, son! :punk:

What scares the hell out of me is there are people out there giving him A's and b's!!! Hell, lets give Bush junior an A on eloquent speaking while we are at it!!:rofl_200:

I give him a big fat fucking goose egg-ZERO

For the simple reason that no man has the right to the produce of another, ever.

Giving people something they didn't work for is the quickest way to remove motivation for hard work, after all, why try?

Obama was elected purely on a "I'll give you some stuff for free" platform, and so far he is doing everthing in his power to fulfill that by "punishing the rich" (who are they anyway?)

"Atlas will shrug"

Then all the "takers" are going to be left standing there with their pants down around their ankles and a cold wind blowing on their ass embarrassing themselves with the limp dick in their hand they were using to screw the "producers" and wondering what the hell happened.

I think Obama is the ABSOLUTE WORST PRESIDENT THIS NATION HAS EVER HAD!

But looked at from MTN/max's viewpoint I have to agree that maybe he is the catalyst that people needed to finally notice they are the frog in the frying pan; Obama turned the heat up so fast that they are finally noticing, unlike the frog who doesn't notice he's being cooked alive when done slowly enough.

This is a glaring example of what's wrong in America:

(1) BUSH introduced the bail out package, and tried to rush it in before he was voted out.
(2) OBAMA opposed it - initially - then followed the exact same path bush was on it.

They both did the same thing. Even though Americans opposed it. Democrat or Republican - either choice you made would have ended up with the same results.

This clearly says that Corporate America is calling the shots. Big money is pulling the strings, and your votes mean nothing.

You folks need a political overhaul / revolution. But your guns will be gone long before the population gets on board.

:punk: Yes they can have all my guns when they pry my cold dead fingers off of them. Not before then. I live in Arizona and we carry them everywhere, that confuses them. Spur

To all the Democrats who think they would have done things better than the Republicans, and to the Republicans who think they would be doing a better job than the Democrats...

THIS IS HOW THE ECONOMY DIED:
(everyone is to blame, those people who made bad decision, and both government parties)

1.) Borrowing money - at a TEMPORARY low rate. Banks gave this to people who can't withstand even a single interest point spike to buy the...

2.) Homes (that they don't own - nor can they afford) - on the basis that the homes value will continue to increase forever. Parked in the driveways of the homes they can't afford are...

3.) Vehicles. Big and small. Recent trends leaning towards a large gas guzzling 4x4 SUV used to commute very small distances over perfect paved highway. Owned by people who can't afford a significant gas increase - WHICH IS INCREASING ALL THE TIME, or the decrease in their homes value, or the spike of one single interest point. They will go to ikea and buy...

4.) Furniture for their home, using credit card and loans, to fill a house that they cannot afford.

DO the math. A population. A generation of Americans who own nothing at all. It's very easy to break a mans spirit when you can take away everything in his possession at the whim of a single interest point. Personal liberties have been disappearing faster than you can shake a stick at them. If you think for a second that your government wasn't 100% aware that this was happening - you need to wake up.

What did the government do as a result of the crisis? Rewarded the banks on the backs of the devastated man and women suffering the most.
This was BUSH and OBAMA, both let this happen. Republicans introduced the bail out - Democrats signed it.

Arguing that Republicans would be doing a better job is pointless. They would have don't the same thing.
What America needs is unity. With that unity you to re-start the political system.

Well said. I've never trusted either party, thier main goal is whatever it takes to get reelected, and lately "whatever" it takes seems to be "bread and circuses" for everyone.

I most assuredly do not believe in any conspiracy on anyones part, just a whole lot of people doing whatever it takes to get something for nothing.

It's more of a chaos theory.

Coming from a guy who lives in a country that just imposed a "harmony" tax.

I have written a letter for each level of government concerning the matter.
I also have yet to have a chance to vote on this issue. I am as actively involved in fighting the harmony tax as I can be.

It should also be clear that this new "harmonized tax" is for the province of Ontario - it is not a Country wide assault. They are likely doing this province by province, as to not make it an integral election issue. Each of the parties are all on board. The only people who say they aren't want to build homes for each poor person, and charge me to do it - as well as feed them.

THAT BEING said - we WILL be taxed more, and we, as a Country will roll over and take it. Yes.

I am not knocking your Country. On the contrary, I am rooting for a revolution.

Reality check. The city you live in is likely "incorporated". Your politicians make the laws and run the corporation. Their "business" is taking your money and sprinkling enough around to build patronage armies and dependent voters. Welcome to socialism. Chicago politics have been unleashed on the US. The bottom line is it is not the "evil corporations" or the other political party that is to blame. Socialism doesn't work and you will never be able "fix" it. Government IS the problem.
You must vote the socialists out no mater what party they are in. Take back control of your government and you life.

I didn't think you were knocking us. I have a lot of Canadian friend from 1 coast to the other due to this "social club" I'm in and am pretty aware of what goes on there, plus my proximity to the border keeps me informed. Anywho, I just thinks it's funny that you mention tax and guns when you guys get asshammered on both. You probably know some of the guys i know, Charlie, Martin from Toronto, Eric and Sean in Ajax, Donnie and Jason in Missaugua, Guy in Brampton, and Peiro to name a few, you know, they like hockey...

While to some point I do agree with you...on the flip side of the coin, I think it really has less to do with govt and more to do with personal responsibilty. I'm sorry, you shouldn't be buying the $800k house when you are a school bus driver (remember this). Yes, I know...an off the wall example, but most aren't far from it. If you lose everything because a single interest point changed, perhaps you should have never put yourself int he situation to begin with.

I bought my house in 2001, when all of the loans were still alive and kicking. I shopped for a house that was within my means. Nothing big and fancy, just big enough for me and my wife with an allowance for a child later down the road. You know what, they offered me the adjustable apr too...you know what i told them..."That's alright, I'll take the fixed rate...it may be a little more up front, but I'll know what it is 10yrs from now" ...load it up with cheap furnature to get me going (think Goodwill store and Walmart here) and replaced with qaulity staff as I could afford to do so.

When I bought my cars, did I go out and get the most luxurious thing that my credit could get approval for....HELL NO...I got what was sensible, fairly well equiped and more importantly, what I could afford....

Plain and simple, the economy died simply because people got greedy. They lived beyond the means and didn't look before they leapt. If more people would have done this and put more thought into what they were actually getting themselves into, they probably wouldn't have been looking to the govt for a handout that congress was more then willing to provide to win their next election.

What I do whole heartedly agree with, is the re-start of the system. Our representation needs to remember who they are serving and why, and not who is just lining their pockets.....

but that is just my personal opinion :D
