Just wondering if any one has purchased the extra tank that replaces the false tank cover ? I seen it on the Exactrep site. Rather good idea, you get an extra 1.5Gal capacity. Does it look too big on the bike in your opinion ? Is it worth it ? Good quality ?

I always figured that after 80-100 miles I am ready to get off the bike anyway although it can suck trying to plan a trip to be able to get gas along the way without getting stranded empty somewhere.

When I went out to the Big Bend area last year I had to carry a one gallon can in each of my throwover saddlebags to cover the distance between gas stations.
I would jump at the chance for some kind of way to carry extra gas but the tank you're talking about to me looks like a Beluga Whale head, and it's over $1000 bucks.

Here's an Idea I like better but don't have the fab skills to pull off.

At one time I was thinking about expanding the present tank with the room under the buddy seat and having the fill in the back for easy access. If there won't be a new Max, I'll probably do that. There should be enough room for an extra gallon.

Boxenstopp sells a tank that replaces the rear seat for a mere $900
It holds 1.5 gallons

how serious are people looking for more fuel capacity? I might be up for fabbing a tank that is shaped similar to one of my reworked rear seats or even a stock seat. Wouldn't add a ton but would give some boost to the range.

There was a site that had a cool auxillary gas tank that was basically a bag that you could place anywhere on your bike. When I can find the site again, I will post it.

I'd be interested, Sean, price dependant, of course. I won't be spending any 900 bucks for a gallon and a half, that's for certain. Let us know when you get one fabbed up.

Chris.

I'll try to play with it and see what I come up with. It isn't going to be right away unless I know I have a good sale. I can't even imagine it being half that price.

Hi Guys

Check the tank from http://www.thetankshop.com/
I have used one from them and it is of good workmanship and quality. He has a 7Litre( 1.5gallons?) going for ?300 with shipping to US at ?80 . Its a real steal.

When I made the last run, I was down to .3 gallons when we found gas station outside Lukenbach. You couldn't pound a needle up my backside with a sledgehammer and I was sweating bullets worrying about how far I would be pushing her along.

That caused me to go to Wal-Mart and pick up two plastic one gallon + cans - one for each saddle bag. I put foam board insulation under them because they do ride above the pipes.

That gives me an extra 70ish miles, just in case.

Or, you can order a Tour Tank (no, I am not affiliated) that sits on the luggage rack (if you have one) and pipes right into the fuel line.

My solution cost $15.00 bucks for two gallons.

Their solution is $129.00.

Since I only worry on long runs, I went cheap and easy... like me!!! :biglaugh:

That's exactly what I did on my trips down to Big Bend Park, just in case...worked out fine....

I would be seriously interested as well. I commute, one direction is enough that I have to get gas on the way back. If I could make a round trip and only fill once, that would be awesome.:worthy: Plus I am sure if you build they will come...
