Well not sure when or where but somehow my license got ripped offa my bike. By ripped i mean ripped. Looks like it was bent backward then pulled/yanked off. I dont remember wheeling that far back. lol. And the flimsy tailight is right there. I think if someone backed into it and yanked it off they would screwed up my tailight. Heres a pic of it. Dont mind the dirty bike. I like to ride not clean lol. Whats it look like to you guys? Them Bastards! lol.

Looks like someone worked it back and forth by hand until it came off.

I would call it plate theft more than any sort of accident.

I just hope that you notified the right people about it
cause people usualy do that when they are going to commit a crime and let the blame fall on you. It was definatly worked off of there.:bang head:
<<Dave>>:punk:

Im going up today to get a new one, ill report it to the license office then. I think i gotta pay again. They took my nice chrome plate holder too. mighta been what they were going for but dang they cant cost more than 30$.

Ya i thought it looked like it had been worked offa there back and forth myself. :bang head:

no one stole it, i guarantee it. The same thing happened to me on my 84 magna v45. The plate got bent back a little at the bottom and the tire ripped it off from there. The only way I know this is because my friend saw the whole thing happen and almost died from my license plate. Just get a small plate cover and toss it on there.

That's exactly what I was going to say. The bracket wasn't stout enough to hold the plate on when the tire "grabbed" it. Our drag Fazer has wadded up the plate a ton of times and we have to straighten it every time we get done riding it (on the street - we take it off for the track).

Ya, the way the bracket is bent back toward the tire would suggest your Vmax got a little hungry and went all Jaws and ate your license plate. Probably on the side of the road....somewhere. My Magna did that once too, but the plate bent enough and didn't break off....noticed this hissing noise coming from the rear end and stopped to discover it folded up. How it got caught back there I don't know...

Still make sure you report it as lost, though not sure how much good it will do. Friend of mine had the license plate stolen off his snowmobile trailer in old forge, called right away and reported it. Couple days later he got a ticket in the mail of his license plate on a truck blowing through a toll booth. Was a huge hassle to get it straightened out, since DMV didn't quite "get" the plate had been reported stolen.

I believe this is the reason most run plastic screws... Nothing more's needed and they fail before causing more damage.

I for one run plastic on all three of my bikes.

The same thing happened to my buddy " BUTCH'S " 2005 VTX 1300 , he had a big chrome frame with the solid chrome backing plate , we were riding in pennsylvania & all of the sudden two guys rode up next to us & one was holding his entire license plate assembly ! ... I grabbed it and said holy shit , this weights like 20 frigging pounds ! .. It broke off the entire mount up from under the fender !

wonder how it even starts to bend up under the tire? from being hit once so the tire can get its tread on it???

How is the plate getting hooked on the tire? May have been bent in a bit prior to the ride.
I HAD a plate mounted in a chrome cover and went for a fast run on the parkway. The next day I had a bike rally in NYC and realized the plate and bracket broke off. Rode in the rally (police escorted) plus another 100 miles with no plate. Nobody noticed...but thats NY. lol The bracket can't handle the weight of the plate cover or the roads in NY.

I actually thought it looked like the backtire popped it off too. If you look at where the bolts would go through they are rounded. like the nuts pulled straight out too. Makes me think more that somehow, My license was bent into my wheel and when i took off it popped it oughta the holder. I dont see anyone pulling nuts through that 1/8" metal holder. I just dont understand how the license was bent under. unless someone backed into it and pushed it with their bumper just perfect enough not to hit the tailight.

License office said its 12$ for a new plate, $3.50 if I make a police report. Ill pay the 12$. The less I have to see cops the better. Plus Id probably wait 2 hours for someone to take the report.

Here's the plate on the racebike. It doesn't take much for the plate to snag. This plate has been straightened probably a dozen times. Of course we have a pretty stout set of brackets that the plate is bolted too.

ya my plate tapped my tire a couple times. had i not caught it sooner and rebent 9it back it prolly woulda been mangled like that

How the heck is it getting bent back into the tire all those times Sean? I just dont remember backing into anything, lately (lol). I let a "buddy" ride it, I asked him about it but he said he was goin forward the whole time. never backed up. I trust his word, maybe not his memory though haha.
I do think it came off this way though. Seeing where the nuts had pulled through really makes it look like thats what happened. Someone coulda kicked it backwards in a parking lot or bumper of a car coulda just barley touched it back. O well. Thought it curious and figured id post it. Thanks for the CSI Investigation. Makes me feel better that it wasnt stole.

Remember, the tire is rolling forward on the top of the tire so while cruising down the road it will pull it forward if it grabs it. Extended swingarms, tag relocations, and lowered bikes can all be potential problems. The Fazer we run that tag on has the wheel too far rearward and the plate sits over the tire. On a hard launch (when running shocks) the rear dives down and the tire contacts the plate.
