Hello all, I want to change my leaking middle gear unit from my 85 vmax

A friend send me a complete middle gear in a good condition

The Yamaha books show the serial number of the MIDDLE GEAR COMP. is different

85-95 is - 26H-W1751-00-00
96-2007 is - 26H-W1751-01-00
The 2003 version got a special serial 26H-W1751-02-00

I guess someone drunk too much sake in Yamaha Lol

Anyway, what is the fu##### different between the 00 and the 01 version ?
Can I use the “01” on my 85 vmax?

Are you changing out the complete middle gear set because of a leak or because the set is bad in some way?

Good point. If the gear is in good shape and the seal is leaking, or the o-rings, maybe a repair might be better. I believe there is no difference in the parts from older Gen1 to more recent.

I just know that I have an oil leak from the middle gear.

I don't know if its the oil seal or just the O ring of the unit
for checking that I will need to take off , wheel, driveshaft, , exhaust, shocks, and rear arm just for answer that.

I will take it all off when I will get all the shims that I ordered - and it will be soon.

then I will have two options
or putting a complete unit (looks like in good shape) that I got from a friend
or ordering new parts and replace it all inside my stock unit.

I prefer not to deal with opening it all take of the baring out and rebuilt it all...

the question is - its not a easy way just to put the new complete unit that I got ?

but the question is same
I own a 85 that need - 26H-W1751-00-00
while he gave me - 26H-W1751-01-00 part
