Side mount license plate

Anybody know if side mounted license plates are legal in NY?

I'd really like to get that plate down where it's a little less obvious, but I'm betting it'll cost me $'s in fines if I do. :bang head:

The mounts are easily available, but expensive. It's pretty difficult to find any for under $150.

That seems ridiculous to me, I'll prolly cut one out of a thick aluminum road sign and have it powdercoated. Cost-around $25

Here's one that looks pretty darn good for a low price. Plus it also gives an option to move the license plate horizontally for those picky states that'll fine you for having it mounted straight up and down.

I think they are illegal in most every state but normally most are not hassled by the cops over it.

all I know is Deals Gap and Shady Valley are cracking down on license plates. I even heard some rumors that po-po's are cracking down hard on often motorcycle traveled routes. ???? I got a $143 license plate ticket at shady valley a couple months back. here's the link.:bang head:
