Winter came quickly and it's time to take care of the appearance of my "new" 1997 vmx. I just installed the passenger backrest with a leather topcase. and polished the airbox covers. I didn't want them to look like chrome and I think they look good and very similar to the new original.
What do you think ?

Yes sir, winter is for mod work LOL and skiing and fishing.......
What's up with that briefcase/topcase, can you demonstrate it?
 
Appears to be a three-strut add-on to a OEM low grab bar, w/two of the fabricated struts (the inside ones) adapting to the top 'tall' backrest. The outside fabricated struts provide a wider platform for the leather bag.

As I recall the OEM accessory luggage rack is rated for something like 6 or 8 lbs. This looks much sturdier.

I don.t know if it is OEM or similar. I was looking for something like that few weeks andfinally the price decided . (about 177$ for this set - sissy bar, bag and tool roll).

What's up with that briefcase/topcase, can you demonstrate it?
60x28x30 centimeters, plywood on the bottom and solid mounting to the rack.
I need to change the indicators screws because originał were too short.

Also fixed position lights switch, mounted fairing and a second speedometer.

A second speedometer? Why stop at two?

Old Chinese proverb: man with one watch knows the time, man with two watches is never sure.

Same goes with speedometers.

BTW the original speedo has a reed switch that is utilised by the self cancelling turn signal module.
 
Original speedo stays and canceling turn will work, but original is in miles and i want speed in kilometers (have glassses to read. kilometers are very small) and also want to know the gear i'm riding.
Original must stay because of polish "Central Vehicles Information". Someone typed the mileage in miles not in kilometers in there and must stay like that because of polish police.

Mine was a Canadian import with kmh speedo. I managed to source one in moh from the US which had a mileage reading within 10% _ not that it mattered as on first registration it could have been set to any value.

An alternative is to change the clock face.

Not quite sure I understand the typing in the mileage thing, it's going to change as you ride anyway. It sounds like some BS law made up by bureaucrats.
How often have the police stopped you to read the speedo?

It is about the polish law.
If they entered the mileage in miles at the office during the first registration in the country, it must stay that way. In Poland, the police check the mileage during a roadside inspection. If you have less mileage than you had entered in (CVE) during technical examinations, it means the mileage is changed backwards and it is a crime in Poland. And that's why the original speedo must stay, and keep going forward in miles.

The VR1000 Harley-Davidson was homologated as a 'street bike' in Poland, so it could be entered in racing here in the USA. That was the bike which put H-D on the path to more modern bikes, i.e., water-cooled bikes. The design began in the 1980's and was produced through the mid-1990's.

Guessing somewhere on the LCD screen there was a speedo function to satisfy the Polish police.

I'm partial to the contrasting sides paint-job. You get two entirely different 'looks' from the split colors. This is a style of painting used in the automobile design studios to compare and contrast two different styles to make a decision about which one is going to be adopted for production, using a single model/prototype. The sheetmetal and trim would often be treated to such a contrast on the clay models. My friend is retired from GM in Warren MI at the Design and Tech Center, and he said it was common to do.

Jack Roush Engineering did the engine development. I bought a V4 Yamaha engine from a Roush employee after they were done with it, they had bought it to study its design, and he got it before it went to the scrap pile, and I got it from him in Detroit.

Looks nice, Like bobber.
The Police on by Poland Has nothing to Speedo with miles. You can drive vehicles with miles spedoo. It's about the mileage tha you made by the year from one technical inspection to another. ( Technician write the mileage of your vehicle in to the system and every policeman in the country can read It)
Every time i was stoped to usually inspection by the Police they always check the mileage. Doesn't matter you driving car or motocycle.
