I've been thinking about getting some tire-changing equipment lately, and read on a few places about what works and what doesn't work well.

I decided that the No-Mar company http://www.nomartirechanger.com/Default.asp would be a decent investmentfor some of their stuff, nothing in the $500-and-up category, something that would help me to mount tires with safety, no damage, and ease of use. Cruising craigslist, I saw one for sale at a healthy discount. I checked his other ads, and found he had the Harbor Freight tire mounting system, including the motorcycle adapter, for-sale as-well.

I made an appointment, liked what I saw, and brought it home. I also got the HFT rolling balancer

Each of the Harbor Freight tools is $40, so 3($40)=$120, plus the No-Mar tire lever $129 and some tire mount lubricant (a small tub) thrown-into the deal, gratis. Call it $10 for the tire mount lube.

That's $129+$120+$10=$259 then 7% tax, for a total of $277.13.

It cost me $100. We'll see how the stuff works. :punk:

Cool.... good luck with it.

I have a friend that has a No Mar setup that mounts to the trailer hitch on his truck. He charges $20 to mount and balance a tire, a real bargain now-a-days in my parts. Even at that rate I'm sure he's made his money back many times over.

If I can ever afford a set of CF wheels to match the rest of my bike, I'll be looking at mounting my own tires as well.
 
My local shop I usually buy tires from charges <$20 off the bike (per tire) for a mount/balance, if you buy the tire(s) there. That doubles to $40 apiece if you bring-in a Cycle Gear tire pair, or 'purchased elsewhere' tire(s), that's $80 a pair. They sell a lot of tires, to everyone from scooter owners to the 300-series H-D rears that look like beach balls. It doesn't take much-more than one set purchased elsewhere to make this tool array pay for itself.
 
For what its worth,there's a guy here, Ft Lupton, CO. that doe's car and light truck tires out if a residential/commercial property. I have delt with him for years, one visit I noticed all of his Blue Point, Snap-on and Cornwell equipment had been replaced with Harbor Freight . He had a 1/2" pneumatic impact that I didnt recognize the name on,Harbor Freight, his sockets, hose, compressor, everything! He swore by it and said it was all alot less money. If something broke and it did, he said Harbor Freight changed it out no question...he's sold on Harbor Freight as a commercial tire man. They just may be the Hyundai or Kia of the tool market.
 
I've got a cheaper and portable H.F. bead breaker that works really good. The one in the pic looks even better. I just mounted some tires for Christian using the tie wrap method. I'll never use tire irons & rim protectors again on bike wheels. It was easier than any other method I've used and most important to me, preserves the wheels. Marking up the wheels was the reason I stopped paying to have tires mounted. And I'm happy with Dyna-Beads. I always spin a wheel on the stand to find it's true heavy spot first and check the trueness with a dial indicator. The LCR rear wheel was near perfect. Nice work LCR.

Phil, I spent an hour at No mar booth at Daytona. They had me mounting and demounting like a pro in one demonstration. 300 size steamrollers, narrow harley fronts, did it all. My advice WOULD have been, look for a No mar on Craigslist. Half or less and usually barely used.
