Here's kind of an interesting story from the last time I was home and out on the bike....

Me and my buddy with the M109 went out for a nice cruise one night, left late afternoon and it was right on the cusp of dark when we were on our way back....a dim twilight. We got on the highway to "make a little time" on the way back, only had 3 or 4 miles to go on it. We merge on and encounter the typical clusterfuck of cagers who can't figure out how to merge into traffic (two ramps merge on at the same time the 3rd lane ends...always a mess). Finally they start settling over into the right lane, do a quick lane split around a minivan doing 65.1mph in the left lane, and there's 2 miles of vacant left lane, all downhill.

Vmax gets stuffed firmly against the stop and within seconds I hear the tone of the exhaust shift as the boost opens...how I tell I just passed 100mph just by sound. I've got the "position" to haul ass....for me it's feet on the highway pegs, ass against the fuel door, loose grip on the handlebars, and crouched behind the flyscreen....kind of awkward, but it does seem to keep the wobbles at bay for whatever reason. Cars are widely spaced in the right lane, so no worries about a cager suddenly popping out to pass. Blow by one car doing around double it's speed and still climbing. Already a mile's gone(happened to catch a glance at a marker), I chance a look down. 125mph, up around 7500RPM and still climbing. Temp's already ticked up 5* past normal to 190. Now the downhill starts to level out and the acceleration tapers off. A ways up ahead, I see another bike scoot into the left lane I hadn't noticed earlier. Little high taillight, a crotch rocket of some kind. I'm gaining fast on him, he scoots over to the right side of the lane and gives the sportbiker wave, the one finger pointed at the ground. I pass him at 140, but he already decided to play and was probably up to 100 or so, I didn't whiz by him like the cars. Now there's another 3/4 mile of downhill. Bike's been pinned for a good minute straight now, and I see the needle creep past 140....still stable, so I keep it pinned. Tom's pressure gauge stop rising now at 60psi. I see the headlights of the sportbike starting to close back in, the M109's back a few car lengths(it hits the rev limiter in 5th around 140 or so). Still going.....needle is closing in on 145, the tach is nudging against 9 grand. Another merge interchange is coming up in about 1/2 mile, so I tap the brake twice to let them know I'm backing off, then actually let go of the throttle, letting the engine slow my back down to 80 or so. When I first let the throttle snap close, the motor let out a couple pops and snaps from the superheated exhaust, I swear the motor sounds almost disappointing, going from a steady wide-open scream to a bunch of vacuum noise, gradually slowing down. The sportbike pulls up along side of me, it's an R6 with a well done red LED setup making the whole thing glow tastefully. We coast down to the stoplight going into troy, and finally stop.

The Vmax is still happily burbling away at 1000rpm after being pinned at near redline for 2 minutes straight, never missed a beat. Oil pressure is the usual 3-4psi at idle. Temp is a bit higher than usual, but I switch the fan on since I know it's nothing but traffic now for 5 miles. The guy on the sportbike stops next to me, flips up his visor and says "holy shit, I knew those things were fast but I didn't know they went like that!" He said he got on the 600 a bit before I blew by him, and he was only slowly reeling me back in, and I shut down from traffic before he got a chance. "It sounded like I got passed by a top fuel dragster, and I swear I saw your pipes glowing as you came up on me". He's looking over the chrome scoops and the Vmax badges, glinting in the sodium vapor streetlights. We chat for a bit and take off again with traffic and just putz along for a bit. The car in front of us turns off, I was on the right side, the R6 swerverd around into the left lane and got ahead a bit. I pull the clutch in as I'm slowing down, remember it was in second, then just mat the gas and let go of the clutch a fraction of a second later. I see the shift light for just a second after I drop it, the Metzeler never stood a chance. Instant rolling burnout and I'm coming up fast, I see the R6's front wheel leave the ground as he gets on it...this is my kind of rider. I smoke (literally) past him with white smoke rolling off the 170 in a circular wisp. When we stop at the next light, "that's probably the coolest thing I've ever seen a bike do....that thing sounds so nasty, it's just like a big V8". I look back and down, see the rear fender is still slightly smoking.

Unfortunately, he turned off before I could get his phone # to meet up for another ride. Oh well....it's always fun though to find other bikers who want to mess around. I guess too timid to be a hooligan on their own, but "when someone else is doing it", they can't help it.

This was the first extended WOT run since I put in the 147.5 mains, so don't worry about that being too lean.

Anyway...cool to see the Vmax still gets props....The vmax motor just begs to be run hard....it just feels so "happy" to be flogged. As if it's finally getting a break from the effortless monotony of cruising highways and farting through traffic, it actually gets used like it was designed for.

Make your Vmax happy, go floor it for a bit!:eusa_dance:

Ra, Great Read. I needed a story like that to bring my spirits up. Lots of work to do on my truck and my 89 VMax tomorrow...
I'll be Day Dreaming about doing the same thing while I'm workin.........

Exactly. Not the fastest or quickest...but a sport bike is a dime a dozen.

Man me and you should ride together sometime!! Finally someone other than me who likes to run their bike how it was made to ride. Every time I go out on my bike I find at least one stretch of balls to the wall white knuckle hold the fuck on. If you don't do this, At least once in a while, you shouldnt have a Vmax.

you captured the spirit of the event vividly in my mind. excellent story, i need to write some of my own i guess. i 100% agree, make her happy and floor it for a bit.

i MAN " RA " , IF THIS WAS PORN , I WOULD HAVE " CUM " HALF WAY THREW ! .. GREAT STORY ! . :wkwk:.. :thumbs up: . :biglaugh: . :rofl_200:

Tim, do you need a kleenex?

Glad you enjoyed it. I've been considering writing a fictional vmax based adventure book, maybe posting an installment every couple weeks or so. Maybe I'll start hammering away in word this weekend...I've got a couple different plot lines in my head....maybe I'll do a "chapter 1" of each and let you decide which one seems most promising.

So far the couple stories I've posted have been actual events(unless you're a member of law enforcement, then they're purely hypothetical and for entertainment only), but "read-worthy" things don't happen all that often, and obviously never when there's snow on the ground. I suspect I enjoy writing these as much or more than youse guys like reading them.

Very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed that read. Currently I'm shopping around for a VMax to replace the bike I gave my friend who needed a vehicle. This story is making the wait much more difficult, lol. Trying to find one at a bargain price. about 2 grand because I plan on tearing it down and making it my own. Once again, great read.

RA, damn, that was a good story...read it twice...almost felt as though I was there! Thanks :punk:

This was definitely a great story made much better by the way it was excellently written.

I too find myself looking for a nice stretch of road to blast down on each ride that I go on. I do have to admit that I've never been anywhere near 140mph though. I've done that a million times on all my sport bikes, but never felt comfortable enough to do that on the Vmax.

Great story!!

RA knows how to write a story and make you feel like you are watching a movie as you read it.

Someone read one of his articles where he did a comparison on two motorcycles and their comment was something like "gee RA you should be writing for Cyclewold magazine or something to that effect. I agree !
