Much loved full-power 1997 Vmax 1200 – Selling to fund new project (another VMax!). It's a great looking bike and has been incredibly reliable.

This bike is an absolute hoot to ride and, thanks to the chassis upgrades, handles very, very well.

It has the greatest road-presence out of any bike I've ever owned. People take notice of you coming and the traffic usually gets out of your way like Moses parting the Red Sea!

The 4-2-1 exhaust system and stubby carbon can lets the V4 engine bark like a vicious dog and the low rumble of the engine is more reminiscent of a V8 muscle car than any other bike on the road.

Here’s a run-down of the specs…

Engine;
  • Full stainless 4-2-1 exhaust system with oval carbon stubby can
  • Switchable V-Boost ~3000/6000 RPM
  • Stage 3 Dynojet kit - performed by Powerhouse Automotive
  • K&N Air filter
  • Recently fitted “engine saver bracket” and improved O-ring on oil line in sump.

Front-end;
  • Hayabusa USD forks – extended by 40mm
  • Billet “thug” yokes
  • Billet handlebar risers
  • Hayabusa front wheel with 320mm brake discs
  • Tokico 6-pot calipers (recently completely rebuilt)
  • GSXR1000 radial front brake master cylinder & lever
  • Braided brake hoses all round

Rear-end;
  • Braced swingarm, including notch to accommodate 180/55 rear tyre
  • FJR1300 rear wheel
  • Custom rear brake hanger bracket
  • R1 blue-spot caliper on rear wheel

Misc;
  • Shortened subframe
  • Shortened Exactrep “Single seat conversion tailpiece” – but with seat pad for pillion
  • Exactrep “bullet-style” belly pan
  • Exactrep “Mega-air-scoops”
  • Brushed aluminium knee plates
  • 6” round LED headlamp
  • LED tail/brake light
  • Side-mount reg-plate
  • Standard clutch master cylinder with billet “Vmax” cap
  • KOSO digital speedo
  • Motobatt Gel battery
  • Black anodized bar-end mirror
  • May have Barnett clutch plates & spring conversion - The bike came with a pile of receipts & the receipt for this was included (dated 2008). I've not had the clutch cover off to confirm.

This isn't a show bike, it's been built to ride and has seen plenty of use. So, it's probably not for you if you're looking for something pristine. In my opinion, the pictures accurately reflect the condition of the bike, but if you're unsure about anything just ask for pics of whatever you want to see, or come and take a look at it in person. (Sheffield, S25)

  • There are a few bits that I would’ve liked to have got sorted if I were keeping it;
  • The bike used to have “v-stax” style velocity stacks on the sides of the carbs. Unfortunately one of the velocity stacks fell off, so I removed them all while I was looking to find a replacement. The slugs are still there waiting for a replacement set to be fitted.
  • The rear wheel and swingarm were spray-painted black, this finish has seen better days and it could do with either touching up or powder coating.
  • Clutch cover has been given a knock at some point, so there is a bit of damage to that, but this has never caused any issues for me.
  • The general condition of the bodywork could do with smartening up a bit, but it’s reflective of any bike this age that's been used.

I’ll be taking the bike for an MOT this week, so you’ll be riding away with a full, 12-month MOT.

Looking for £4000 ono.

Re: (UK) 1997 Full Power VMax

Do they sell bikes over there the same way as houses?
In the states i obo (or best offer) means the highest price is listed and then the next best is taken.
In the UK when selling a house ono (or nearest offer) meaning highest price and or highest offer above.

Re: (UK) 1997 Full Power VMax

Not sure about everyone else here, but I use ONO to mean nearest offer below the asking price.

Then there's OIRO - offers in the region of. Which usually means an offer over the price listed, but can also mean the seller might accept a price below the asking price.

With houses, most are listed with an asking price and, at the lower end of the market, people expect to haggle the price down. Whereas in the middle or upper end of the market, you're more likely to see a house advertised as "offers over £xxx".

At least that's my experience.

Re: (UK) 1997 Full Power VMax

You should post a video of the bike running - including a walk-around. Might get you more offers.... plus it will give us a chance to hear the exhaust rumble!

Re: (UK) 1997 Full Power VMax

What kind of cool carb covers are those? Custom machined?
Looks like something I could make on my lathe :)

Re: (UK) 1997 Full Power VMax

Sold :-(

The slugs on the carb covers were for mounting velocity stacks, new owner is going to find one to match the missing one and have them all back on
