valve chain guide

When you have the valve covers off for an adjustment there is notches in the front and rear cam chain tunnel on the head for guides. Is there supposed to be a guide in both front of the head and back of the head?

There are two guides in each head. One guide is placed into the lower block before the head is installed (on the tensioner side). This guide is a two part guide shaped like a "V". The other guide is installed before you put the valve cover on and is like a long flat stick (obviously a very simplistic description of the part).
