So I’ve owned a 1988 vmax for about a year and I noticed the switch on the left scoop, I did some research and found that it is possibly the vboost control switch, and if so is it on when the tip of the switch is up or down? Probably a stupid question to most. Also, are the any real advantages of running the vboost on or off?

I guess the easiest way to tell is to ride the bike with the switch in both positions and see what the difference is

It could be 3K and 6K switch OR it could be on/off. Some folks turn the key and then off immediately after the vboost cycles open to give "full time" vboost.

When you turn the key, does the vboost cycle on/off when switch is in both positions? If so, it's the 3K/6K variety.

To see where vboost kicks in, slowly accelerate to 3K and then 6K. You'll feel a bit of a kick in the pants. If you have stock exhaust, you'll hear a bit of a whine (turbo-like).
