My 1770 was knocked over in a parking lot and now has $3,600 in damage. What a mess, of course it’s the matte black edition so parts are hard to get. My question is are there any engine guards made for this model that are a direct fit?

Unfortunately there are no engine guards, or crash bars for the gen 2s. The frame doesn't cradle the engine, so I'm thinking it's the reason why. Just no place to mount them.

I haven’t used mine yet , but they fit just fine. Tip over insurance.

From experience, when they tip.......... Well on mine anyways. It scratched the exhaust heat shield at the bend where it goes up to the exhaust port by the radiator, scratched the ball on the front brake lever, scratched the mirror, bent the rear brake lever, and scratched the muffler end cap so unless they stick out past all of those they are cosmetic. I think what they do is save the engine cases while sliding on it's side at speed. But still cheap insurance, I'm gonna get a set. The one set looks cosmetic, they pictured them on the bike but it still looks like the exhaust sticks out past them on the right side picture, where that bends around the engine case right where that guard is, is where my heat shield got scuffed. It went over soft on a black top road, but was all ready past the recovery stage. Still beat myself up over it, and have no idea how it happened. But it was the first and the last time I wore my logger work boots to move it around, I think I hit the rear brake without knowing it, they have a hard sole and the rear brake will lock up with such little effort.

Well I pulled the trigger on the Sato frame and engine sliders. I got a REALLY good deal on a set of engine sliders that someone had bought and then couldnt use, so then I went ahead and got a set of the frame sliders. What actually changed my mind, were on the Sato website, it looks like the frame sliders stick out past the scoops, so the scoops will be protected as well.......just incase.

Here's real world testing on the sliders. I would say the upper Sato's did the job but one was pulled out of it's thread in the bracket and I think the supercharger filter helped save that side scoop from major damage. The other side has rash where it did slide and the scoop doesn't. The lower engine covers though were damaged but they were otec parts which would have used a larger pad that stuck out further.

FOOTPEG 3.JPG FOOTPEG 4.JPG
ARTY, Do you have any more pics of those foot pegs? Open position and maybe a front angle? I really like the looks of them! Do you have to have the slider for them to work or are they independent of them? Thanks!
Footpegs in open position

To achieve footpegs at the same height, one is mounted ontop of slider and the other underneath. I have used 6mm thick aluminium plate to make bracket, It is also necessary to remove a bit of slider material. I used rear footpegs of 1987 Yamaha FJ1200 only available 2nd hand, however Gen 1 rear footpegs still available new will work. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much! I really like that set-up!
