I have a really nice 1985 VMax that a year ago developed an electrical problem that cannot be fixed:(. So I’m breaking it down and selling all parts including the cool seat, black chrome exhaust, original wheels and front end, engine with under 15,000 miles, suspension etc.
Can anyone tell me the best place to sell the parts?
Much appreciated
Danny

I'd replace the whole harness before parting out a good runner. Tell us about the issue, you just might get the answer you need here. But if you must, right here on this site is a good place to sell.

Good title?
And, the last four numbers of that VIN, along with the info on the steering head VIN tag, for what market does the tag say it was manufactured? Also on the engine, the first three numbers/letters?

I changed most things over time including the pickups, plugs and looms, re-grounded it, and the ignition dyno. Still no spark! Can’t afford to put any more money into it. So I’m just trying to recoup money and help some VMax brother in need of some parts
Appreciate the input. How do I sell parts on this forum?
Thanks Danny

Thanks so much. Here’s the info on the bike

Well, that appears to be the 161st produced for the USA market, I believe. From other sources, the number for the '85 model year was 8,800 for the USA.

I sure as heck would not part it out. First year Vmaxes, especially those with low serial numbers, tend to attract more attention. Does that mean money? I suppose it depends on whether it runs or not. Or what the rest of the bike looks like. And yes, electrical problems can be addressed. Certainly no reason to part it out.

I've run into this many many times in my 50 years of fixin stuff. Usually the toughest ones have the stupidest or simplest problem when you finally find it. The toughest battery charging problem I ever had was the first, in 1973. We tried everything and one day the boss walked in and said "hook the battery up backwards". Turned out the customer had charged it backwards but connected it red to red, black to ground. I wasn't much of an electrical guy then and didn't even own a VOM let alone know how to use it. I've since learned on the tough ones to start on one end with a VOM, use the troubleshooter flow chart if there is one, and go step by step from the battery out to, or from the problem back to it, documenting the results. Troubleshoot in one direction only, don't jump around except for a very few preliminary tests. On something that won't start it's harder and but have someone hit the starter button and watch for spark while you move harnesses around, flexing them as they do in operation, in the steering area, controls, near suspensions, or anywhere there can be movement. You might be beyond any more efforts, but maybe the next time you run into a tough one this will help.
