I'm looking for new mirrors to put on my 85 Vmax.

Does anyone have recommendations? I have a stock looking Vmax, original purple color, nothing's been done aesthetically outside of some chroming done on side covers (scoops?) and couple other things here and there.,

What are the covers called that cover the gas tank? I had them chromed, one has held up but the other is flaking off, it's so thin, the cover...I wouldn't mind going into some flat black, or powder coated treatment for them, also that sorta direction for mods..

Ebay mirrors....

something along those lines.

Also, black signal lights...

something like that...
Who has non-stock signal lights, and or mirrors. I'd like to see how they look on a VMax..

Just my opinion I don't like high mirrors- bar ends for me-
The first set of blinkers look cool though.

I actually like the side covers that you had chromed, left in their original finish. Yes, the material is thin. Powdercoating may be more-durable than chrome. They can remove the chrome the same way it went-on, just removing the electrically-deposited solution containing the chromium, leaving it ready for powdercoating. Plenty of options for your finish then. Since you have an '85, you should have the embossed "VMax" stamped-into the sheet metal, the only year that was done. I'd look to have them in a stock finish, unless you absolutely have to have them modded. You might consider buying a later pair of side covers, without the stamped "VMax," and modding them to your heart's content. There is a certain cachet to having the 1985 side covers, unaltered.

I don't mind the 'lollipops' that are used for turn signals. As far as I'm concerned, the more light you have, and the bigger surface area of the lens, to catch an inattentive driver's eyes, the better-off you are. Going w/some minimalist turn signal light is a very popular mod, just remember you'll have to add resistors if you go w/LED's for lights, to provide the correct electrical 'load' to the electrical system flasher relay.

Remember that Yamahas have a 'reverse-thread' on one side for the mirrors, or you can buy an adaptor, so that your 'everybody-else' mirrors will thread-in. Then one side will be higher than the other because of the adaptor.

Alright. Looks like I won't be modding anything this year.... thanks for the heads up.

Get Plasti-dip or one of the Plasti-dip knock off spray coatings for your side covers. They have a nice satin textured black I used on my faux intake scoops a year ago and it still looks new. If you don't like it or want something different, just peel it off and go with a different color.

For mirrors, go with some bar end units for under $20 : http://vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=41533&page=3

Most people go with smaller LED signals, but I WANT to be seen so I used some surplus semi-truck 4" turn signals. You can always use a drop in LED bulb conversion for any incandescent 12 VDC light.
