I just got a company memo yesterday. My healthcare coverage is going up. To help cut cost, my company has elected to drop the dental portion of my healthcare coverage. To help make up for it, I can purchase an additional dental program.

So my coverage is going up, and to keep coverage AS IT WAS....I have to purchase additional dental insurance. The company hasn't announced how much of an increase that it would be.

Thanks Danny....I "knew" that it was gonna happen...I was just hoping that we as a company would squeak by.

Don't it just make you feel all warm & fuzzy on the insides to be such an integral part of "the change"? :bang head:

Ok I guess you know how I feel about this topic......

Yeah they keep talking about this minimal fine of $95 without adding that its $95 or 1% of your income and goes up higher and higher every year.

I know a lot if independent technical "contractor" that have always been on the open market. Almost without exception there plans are being cancelled for failing to meet minimum obama care standard. Most of the new plans they can find are 2-3 times what they were paying before.

At 1% fine it works out to several thousand dollars cause these guys make big money.

In the end its just another means to redistribute wealth. Charging the fuck out of people that have worked hard all their lives and made good decisions and giving subsidies to help the "poor" buy insurance.

If that's not Socialism I don't know what is......

Fortunately my company policy didn't change a bit and most likely won't. Price isn't going up and coverage isn't going down.

But that doesn't make me feel any better when I know so many are getting screwed.

And forcing some 27 year old healthy single kid to buy insurance so you can use the money to "flatten the rates" is still total bullshit and a false economy.

Those people do make good money...and they do work very hard. I would be willing to be that if they have a 12 hr day...if they are lucky...and its probably 14...maybe 16. They dont deserve that.

Its like me....I make decent money....not great money, but every 2 weeks I drive 668 miles. 668 miles to work, and I put in 12-14 hr days for 2 weeks....and then drive home for 2 weeks.

The Obamacare standard is there to make sure the insurance actually works. Even those only pay 60% or more of total healthcare costs. So if the $975 a month plan was dropped that means it covered fuck all. Did he have like a 25k deductible?

One ER visit and he'd have been SOL anyway for the privilege of dropping $1000 a month. 60% of all bankruptcies in this country are due to medical expense, and plans like that are the ones that 75% of people who had to file bankruptcy had health insurance. source

Is the 3k with subsidies, eligible for subsidies, etc.

These things are not apples to apples comparisons.

Well it sucks he is having a hard time finding something affordable, but I'd bet an outrageous monthly payment that the old plan covered jack shit, and he was more or less wasting his money on it.

As somebody who used to work in the health insurance industry I can tell you that we often had to compete with those super affordable plans, and lost to them allllll the time despite the fact they were essentially worthless. People are terrible at shopping out health insurance, and employers are even worse.

It's all a moot point, its unconstitutional plain and simple. If a law is unconstitutional then it is illegal, just a matter of time before the class action lawsuits start.

I am far from a insurance agent or even playing one with hand puppets.

So I ll ask, $975 a month for health insurance is cheap ? From my understanding his covered, eye, dental and health and was coverage for 3 people ( possibly 4 I dont remember , but I know he has one at home and his wife with him ).

My insurance is accidental and catastrophic only. I have a $10,000 deductible, but a $25,000 accident plan that covers two years ( $12,500 a year for two years, so it covers my $10,000 deductible for two years ). I have myself and my son on it. The premiums are $350 a month give or take some some Washingtons. My plan covers 100%. I have a broker that works my insurance and is constantly emailing me with updates on policy changes and has moved me around a couple times to keep me stable or with the smallest increase. Maybe I am getting swindled. Because I usually know 98% of what I am into when I am working or interested in something. And health care should be something I am interested in, but honestly I am just trying to keep a company going and its often the last thing on my mind.

So a plan for $975 a month which is $11,700 a year is cheap?

I am just asking because if it is, than I am really screwed when I apply for my "old" man insurance plan.
