Why do the OEM rotors are segmented or parted

Today I noticed that my rotors were not one piece parts but rather divided into three parts. I added a picture of a rotor found in Ebay. Initially, I thought that my rear rotor was cracked but then I noticed in Ebay that most or probably all OEM are like that.

Why? Any comments?

The early vmax fronts and all years rear for gen 1 are that way. They are for heat expansion since they are layered discs.
