I am starting to upgrade the ground and positive wires on my 95 VMax. Is there any special considerations on the wires ? Wire Type ? Recommended gauge ? Has any done a ground splitter block ? or positive splitter blocks ? I hate adding more wires to the actual battery connectors.

  • R/R upgrade
  • Starter wire upgrade
  • Main ground wire upgrade

This is an excellent time to show us your 'search' function skills. You can find many threads on each one of those topics.

A MOSFET R/R is a good replacement. Use that in the search term, MOSFET.

Could you post the links to the posts you turn-up?

On the third point you raised, I doubt you need to do anything to the OEM wire if the wire is intact and shiny and tight at its fitting to the right-side case cover screw for it, by the oil filler. Don't forget the smaller-gauge ground by the right side of the steel bracket for the gas pump.

Thanks, I do stereo installations and the bigger the wire (smaller gauge) the less resistance and you get better grounds and power. Are car stereo wires good for a motorcycle if the are wrapped in PVC Sheathing?

I actually would have loved to buy the Ground and Starter kit from JKMax but I cannot find him anywhere. Does anyone have his installation instructions and wire gauge ? I have seen different sizes mentioned on the forums. So I was wondering what size worked better. 4, 6, or 8 gauge for ground. From the battery to the engine block, from the battery to starter.

For the MOSFET I have a FH102AA and thinking of getting the roadstercycle.com Super harness with 30 amp circuit breaker. $56.95

As for a splitter I was thinking of something like this form the battery

Just curious what other members have done and worked.

Well, all those look like decent upgrades, though I don't know that we need to do those unless you were adding circuits, or adding a relay for the headlight or for some accessory, like a cellphone or driving lights.

Take a look at Eastern Beaver online, they have good stuff, including add-on circuit boards w/blade fuses.

Also probably the cheapest electrical upgrade you can do (it's free) is to do the 'crimp-fix.' You solder together several wires on the circuits beneath the seat, by the ignition coils. Do a search for that. You need to strip-away a bit of the wire loom plastic tape sheathing to expose it. Measuring off the battery harness it should gain you about a full volt DC

Here is JKVmax's email. The last time that I bought some ground kits from his is 2021. Hopefully he is still around (We are ALL getting older)

Here are some of his files as well
