Help removing old pushrod oil seal

I don't know if it was leaking but since the rebuild kit came with a new one, I decided to replace it. I tried pliers, screwdriver and coat hanger and can't get it out, but it is trashed now so I can't keep it in. First, does it fit over a metal piece and does the metal piece come out...

What is this in my brake reservoir?

I was draining my front brake reservoir and found this thin piece of metal that fit across the reservoir lengthwise(see pix). What is it's purpose?

    170 psi

The general consensus seems to be 36 p.s.i. in the stock rear tire. Do you put any more in a 170 wide tire?

    Bleed both rear valves?

Upgrading to SS lines, bled rear brake with outside bleeder valve. Do I need to bleed with the inside valve as well? I opened it up and nothing came out...

    Speedometer cable break

So I'm riding and my speedo stops working and so I think one of the ends is unscrwed, I stop and of course it's the top one, I finger tighten it the best I can and it works all the way home..so I take apart the whole light/screen/brackets etc to get a pliers on it, tighten it up and put...

how do I get the seal over the piston?

How? Stretch it? Also that snap ring was a BITCH to get out! And I sprayed some WD-40 in there before I read to never never never use petroleum based stuff in there. I didn't get any on the new parts, can I just clean the thing out really good with brake cleaner?

    Exhaust= carb?

So I have a 4 into 4 exhaust system right now(Cobra slip-on, I know, I know) and the right lower pipe pops some when starting and none of the rest do. Since this pipe crosses over and comes out of the #2 carb, can I assume that it it the #2 carb that is causing it and needs servicing? If...

    Size of rear axle nut?

Does anyone know the socket size of the rear axle nut? It's the one without the cotter pin if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Fuel filter leads to bigger problems...

So I got my fuel filter in the mail (OEM $18) and replaced it (15K miles) and found my old one was full of big reddish-black flakes which I can only assume is rust from the fuel tank. :damn angry: So now I gotta fix that. Probably just easier to have a place coat the tank. Or even buy a used...

    New Plugs=Worse Mileage?

I replaced my plugs with stock NKGs. I checked the gap with two different types of gauges. The bike seemed to run better afterwards but the fuel light came on at low 60 miles! The next tank it came on in the low 80s. Previously it had always been high 90s. I'm not riding it really hard or...

    Vmax washers all the same!

So my manual says to always replace the washers when replacing fluids like coolant, engine oil and final drive oil so I look through all the schematics and pick out the right parts and put them in my virtual shopping cart and then notice that they are all the same part number! Wouldn't it be...

Thinking of going back to stock...

My max came with Cobra slip-ons. I love the look and the sound, but everyone says they rob 10-15HP. So I was thinking of at least trying out the stocker to see if I noticed a big difference, because I can't afford a whole new system. So since a lot(most?) of you have upgraded, does anyone...

Finally saw another one in Seattle!

I've never seen another Max in Seattle until yesterday. In West Seattle, red with solid gloss-black scoops. I was driving the bus so I couldn't get a better look at it or follow him. Anyone here? How could you have one and NOT be on here?

You know the Mod Monkey has bitten when...

YKTMMHBW-You look at the hand rails on the bus door and think "I wonder if I could make frame braces out of those?"

    brakes-normal or wierd?

When I changed my front pads, I loosened the reservoir cover to ease pushing calipers back in. When I tightened up the cover, I had no brakes at all(lever puller right to throttle, no pad movement). Then I loosened up the cover again and squeezed the lever and it worked fine. Tightened up the...

    Stripped!

Well, if it's not one thing it's another. Finally got my forks rebuilt, and was bolting on aftermarket fork brace. P.O. had STANDARD bolts in 3/4 of holes. I bought the correct metric bolts, but one of the holes seems stripped out. Bolt doesn't spin easily, but won't tighten up either...

    installing brake pads/pad squealing

I know there was just a thread on this, but I can't find it for the world. There was a discussion about what to do to prevent/stop disc pad squealing. Someone said they use generic stick-on shims and included a link, some said copper grease where the piston contacts the pad. Can someone...

Where do you work on your bike?

I see everyone's pictures of your bikes in your nice garages with your big, red, tool boxes and think how awesome it would be to have a dry, lit and even heated place to wrench. I just have a cold, windy, carport with northwest weather and light and it's a PITA sometimes to have to bundle up...

    Help-F'd up my spring install!

So I finally got all my parts in the mail(will order from Sean next time), watched the video a couple times and put it all together. So before adding the oil, I thought I'd look in my Haynes book to see how they suggested putting it back together. They suggested some threadlock on the threads...

Tyga fender + Aftermarket Fork Brace=No Go?

Bought a Tyga carbon front fender and aftermarket fork brace at the same time. Tried to install them but holes in the brace and the fender did not seem to line up. The weird thing is that the stock brace works fine with the Tyga fender and the aftermarket brace works fine with the stock...
