I was kinda blown away, but that was it. Got the new gasket on, and it started right up with no issues! YAY! Thanks all for your help.

If you haven't already, the best $35 - $40 investment you will make for your bike is a shop manual, either OEM or aftermarket.
Even if you don't like to wrench yourself, having a manual available for whoever does the work-perhaps even a dealership for another brand of bike - can potentially save a lot of time, guessing and frustration. The manual is the first thing I pack, when preparing for a trip.
