Fork bushes

Hi,

Since my forks are torn apart to install emulators, I also want to check the bushes. My manual states that they are worn when the copper color can be seen on the running surface. The top ones do not show this but the bottom ones do. Is that all? Or is there anything else to check (diameter etc).

Also, I noticed the part numbers change a lot over the years (not only between 41 and 43 mm but especially after 93). Are the bushes interchangeable between 93 - 07?

I`ve checked the different part numbers over the years and this is what I found:

2007: 5EA-23171-30-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK
2004: 5EA-23171-30-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK
2002: 5EB-23171-00-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK
2001: 3GM-23171-00-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK
2000: 3GM-23171-00-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK
1999: 3GM-23171-00-00 PISTON, FRONT FORK

Before 1999, this part could not be ordered (no part #). Does anyone know about the compatibility of these parts? I`ve bought a 43mm fork for my `85 so I do not know from which year it actually is.

I believe they are interchangeable....do your 43mm forks have rock guards? If not they are probably pre '01....if they do have rock guards they are probably '01 - '07 (assuming no changes were made to the outer tubes)

Thank you for your help. I do not have the rock guards so it`s likely to be before 01. I`ve now ordered the 3GM-23171-00-00 part, i`ll let you know how it worked out.

The 93-95 also had the fork drain screw at the bottom which they did away with from 96 on. this helps eliminate a few more years.

Hi,

I do have the drain screw so it`s an early 43mm. I got the bushes in this week and installed them, they fit just fine!
