This is the largest Dam in the US. 770 ft tall. There evacuating below the dam. There expecting it to fail. There's a lot of you tube footage of the dam

I don't want to be misleading. From what I've seen the Dam itself is ok, It's the spill way that's failing. The Dam is full to the top, and overflowing because of heavy rains, and run off.

Of all the places a sinkhole could appear I would think under the emergency spillway would one of the very last! They must have taken extensive core samples....did anyone do bearing ratios or any of that other cool shit?

Possibly a leak from the dam causing underground erosion? Just a guess.

I also hope no one gets hurt. There could be a huge amount of damage though. That could wipe out a whole town.

If you read some of the comments on the local videos of the dam. A lot of the local people are saying the same thing.
