Right rear side cover?

Hey all. I’m replacing my right side rear cover (2012 VMax) since mine got dented. The original has foam glued to the inside of the cover. The replacement cover doesn’t have the foam. Is the foam needed? Do I need to track down some? Thanks.

I am not sure what the foam may accomplish other then maybe vibration or noise suppression. I can't imagine that it's for insulation. We've chromed up a number of them and never had anyone reinstall that.
