Stumbled across this the other day....The GMC Futuliner. Designed to be the "land locomotive" and it certianly looks the part. The main structure was wood, covered in aluminum.

Only 12 were built, and seven are known to still exist. One off those, one with an authentic restoration just sold for over $4 million at auction, making it one of the most expensive cars ever sold.

This style was made in the early fifties. They drove across the country showcasing new technology like televisions, microwave ovens, and other miracles of the 1950s.

If you know of any really unusual or mechanically interesting vehicles, post 'em up!

This looks a LOT like the ride that guy had in "Despicable me"?????

That red GMC was on Barret Jackson in 2006 and sold for... Ready for it.... 4 MILLION dollars... Muhwahhaha.. Sorry... Dr. Evil came out in me there...

Oh and top speed... 40MPH in stock form. The use of them started in 1940 stopped during the war, started again in '53 and stopped again in '56 due to the television. 12 were made, 9 are known to still exist.
