I pulled down my 85's engine months ago to fix 2nd gear, and have just pulled it out from under a cover to start bolting things back together. This thread is just to provide a little more info on the reliability of the good old Vmax. :eusa_dance:
It turns out the motor has never been apart, and after reading many threads on this forum, there are a few pics I want to show you. Just for interests sake. You see, it has lasted pretty good even with the early known design faults.
The bike has done 52000 miles (the speedo cable was broken for a while...).
There was a factory fitted seal on the exhaust and the crankcase. They had not been tampered with.
It still has the early gear selector segment, and none of the pins are loose.
The famous o-ring was not blown out. It looks like it has moved, but not blown.
It had the early gears. The second gear drive dogs had no undercut built in. The replacement ones are undercut - problem solved!
