Maybe I'm just weird, but the only music I want to hear when riding comes from my pipes. Don't need any other distractions.

I haven't listened yet while riding.. I prefer the use of all my senses. However, I may try it on longer cruises..
My buddy swears by inner ear buds that help drone out outside noise. Everything has it's place and sometimes good tunes might sound even better on 2 Wheels..!!!

I feel the same way.....I'm always trying to concentrate on my surroundings, I feel safer that way. To much traffic and other stuff where I live to get lost in some music.

I can see listening though going cross country during some of those long deserted stretches though.......

You don't crank em up like you're at the gym. I can still hear all the normal noises. Just like background music.

I love listening to music when I ride. I used to have a Walkman back in my V65 days but now I'd like to get a unit that works as a intercom when riding 2 up but also connects to my iPhone. Now I wear a Jabra stone 2 that answers by voice command it works good but its only in one ear. So I'm still looking for a device that works all three MP3, Phone and intercom IN STEREO. I'm sure they have or will have one soon. But people call me and can still hear me fine. But it does kill the battery on my earpiece quick listening to music between calls. Oh yea, heavy rock, or progressive rock for me all the way like RUSH, YES, GENISIS, PINK FLOYD for classic but newer stuff LINKIN PARK, GODSMACK, SALIVA.

I have a good collection of vinyl, mostly. My taste is older rock & roll, blues, R & B, psychedelic rock, jazz (Herbie Hancock, Miles, Cannonball Adderly, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Mose Allison), and Frank Zappa.

I don't listen to music while riding.

Here is a guy who I met in college in MI when he was hired by the student body to be part of a double-bill, two very different types of music, but both very entertaining, about 1970. This guy is gone now, substance abuse, mostly alcohol. Steve Earle does a lot of his stuff these days, and he does it well. Steve Earle did a whole album of his songs as a tribute to him, here is a cover song: http://youtu.be/Y7LG86wGG8s

This one is pretty-depressing if you take it at face-value: http://youtu.be/pXJPVRw3hmk

Here's a more-positive song by him: http://youtu.be/pZh1RyyXuls

His name is Townes Van Zandt. The veteran women of rock and blues all know his work, and people like Bonnie Raitt and Emmylou Harris do his songs because they knew him and they like his writing.
