1985 Engine and Frame numbers

I bought a 1985 Vmax.It has been custom painted and was wonderig if it has the original motor in it.Should the last 6 digits of the frame match the last six of the engine? The engine number I found is on the left rear of the block close to the shaft drive it is 31M-008870. he motor by what I can tell has been apart and was told 2nd gear was fixed.I heard of some guys putting venture motors in these.It does have Vboost on it Thanks

My 1980 and '81 XS11, and 1985 Venture's motor number matched the number on the frame.

I't my understanding that Yamaha stopped matching engine and frame numbers in the last few years about 1999 on up or somthing like that.
