Please post the link to the ebay ad where you got the rack and brackets, thanks, me little droogie. Real Horrowshow, that rack is!

Thanks for the replies, I ended up drilling a hole in the Virago sport rack bracket that corresponded to the Vmax sissybar holes. It fit perfect and no bending needed. I will need longer mounting screws to compensate for the added thickness of the bracket. Other than that It is a good fit.

I finished up the final details of splitting the cases and getting on the road again. replaced shift fork #1, shift cam / selector, gears 2,3,4,5, rebuilt the waterpump and clutch slave cylinder, kawi o'ring, and made and installed engine saver bracket. this has been on going the past few weeks. watching me do this is like watching paint dry. many thanks for all the info on this website and the UK version, http://vmaxchat.yuku.com/directory#.VaHHsPlFc1l . also a tip of the cap to Damon for all his help / video.:punk: If anyone needs the rubbercap that goes on the starter wire I found a guy supplying parts for yamaha xs bikes. same as the one on the max and only $1.50. (costs more for the shipping) but he's very prompt. got it in 3 days. http://www.mikesxs.net/
now on to solving voltage issue. already been thru the solutions here and can't get more than 13 volts @ 4000 rpm. high output stator and new version r/r already installed. starts fine hot or cold but my pc680 battery is coming up on 10 years old in september. going to pull it and have it load tested. one other thing I put in a temp switch for a 88 nissan but seem to have gotten the wrong part number for it. It turned on sooner but wouldn't turn off. I reinstalled the original max one. :bang head:
thanks again to all, bill

Don't know how many miles I rode today... it was a lot though. (kinda sore at the moment) Rode across the state to see Charlie Daniels in concert. Was very much worth it!

I have always enjoyed seeing Charlie Daniels. Many years ago I saw Charlie Daniels, Stealers Wheel, and Grinder's Switch in concert, and then hung w/the bands after the show for awhile. Those boys can drink! Nowadays for the surviving members, it's probably a lot more restrained.

Another concert shortly before that was w/Wet Willie ("Keep On Smiling") and the Allman Brothers, in the Miami Orange Bowl, shortly after their album "Eat a Peach" was released.

http://www.goldminemag.com/article/for-the-allman-brothers-band-jamming-was-a-very-natural-thing

"Eat a Peach" ("Melissa," "Mountain Jam") was engineered in Miami at Criteria Studios by engineer Tom Dowd, who also recorded many rock and R & B legends there. Soon after he did that, he also recorded Eric Clapton's great album, "461 Ocean Blvd," ("Get Ready," "I Shot the Sheriff") which is the address of the ocean waterfront mansion he rented on A1A in Miami-Dade County while recording at Criteria w/Dowd as sound engineer. The house is on the tax records now for $5.39 million.

How did the bike do for the trip? Whose saddle are you using? What kind of mileage did you get? And what was the 'scenery' like once you got to the concert? Did you know Red Stripe beer is appreciated by Charlie Daniels fans and not by just reggae music fans?

Shimmed my needles to 3.5 notches from blunt after a plug check. If it ever stops raining, ill get to see how thimgs feel, lol.

yesterday we rode 50 miles with 450 other supporters of the "Great Lakes Burn Camp" at the "Niles Burn Run". great event and an even greater cause. for every $600.00 raised a burn survivor under 18 yrs old gets to go to camp for free and it's a place where no one stares at them and they can just be kids...:eusa_dance:
can't wait to do the ride to deliver the check and escort the kids to camp. they get to ride in the surrounding areas firetrucks led by motorcycle escort.
last year we gave them $24,000 from just the burn run. lots of other donations from other rides and fundraisers.:punk:

So...started having hot starting issues this season which I found odd given that I bought one of those rediculously expensive lithium micro batteries...I knew my charging system was working...getting about 12.9 at idle on the meter...so, figuring my 1995 starter is most likely original (20 y/o), I figured I'd throw in a new one. Got a new 4 brush from Rick's ($187 shipped) and threw it in. Whoa!!! It cranks like a MoFo now and fires right up when baking hot. Sooooo much better than needing a jump after stopping for gas. The job sucked (getting old one out & putting new one in), but hopefully it's something I wont have to touch again for a long time.

Just wanted to post in case anyone else is having same issue with older Vmax...this is a possible solution...

Fellow Vmax lovers..

So I added the Shinko 170 to the back and she looks, feels and performs very well. I was a little nervous if the tire would rub the shaft.. but its still a solid 3/8's of an inch away and that shinko only cost 90 bucks.

Very good tire for the price. I went with a different route, chiefly because I needed a tire that would last longer, but still provided better grip than stock.

Started pulling the forks on old Blue today. The seals were leaking and I see why. Rust from being in wet weather, and cheap ass seals. Don't know who makes the ones with springs on both sides. Gonna clean it up tomorrow, put everything back together and see. Hopefully have a title for this bike next week so I can get it on the road and tweak my 90 some more.

Got out and rode it a few hundred miles. My back & neck is stiff but I'd do it again tomorrow.I met up with Christian in RI and we went for a nice cruise. We got to address his mileage issue a little, and ate a fantastic steak, thanks to Christian.
Nothing like blasting down the road, and hanging out with another vmax owner.
