    Suspension question

Thanks for the reply. Well, I can shorten the fork spring spacers but the shocks only have a pre-load adjustment on the springs, so I'm guessing that replacement with lighter value springs would be my only means to adjust the rear?

    Suspension question

There's no air in the forks and the shocks are at their lightest spring setting. As I recall I used the spacer length recommended in the installation instructions for the fork springs. I weigh 166# and the suspension barely moves when I sit on the bike.

    covid vaccine

Yeah, I put that into my 2002 and it did make neutral easier to find but gear selection seems stiffer than with good old Castrol GTX 20w-50!

    Suspension question

So the stock suspension set-up on my 2002 Max rode really harsh. I replaced the fork springs and rear shocks with Progressive units but the ride is still pretty harsh if the road is not perfectly smooth. When I changed the suspension components on my 1991 ST1100 with Progressive products the...

    Just saw this on CL

I live in Palm Bay but have never seen that bike around, of course this place is getting way too built up from when I moved here 35 years ago... Yeah, I'm old but I still love my V-Fours!

Any mechanic recommendations around NYC or NNJ?

I replaced all of the coolant hoses on my 2002 this year. Both of the spigot fittings in the cylinder heads had some built-up oxidation around the top "lip". IIRC the front was worse than the rear and I just scraped the scale-like corrosion off and smoothed the surfaces with some fine...

Bike creeps forward and stalls with clutch in.

I had the same issue. I rebuilt both master and slave clutch cylinders. The parts are relatively cheap and while you're doing one, might as well do the other 'cause you're going to have to sooner or later anyway. I'm a big believer in PM now, not roadside repair later.

    Vmax frame

One2dmax is the guy who could steer you about this question. In 1996 Yamaha changed the engine block to allow a spin-on oil filter. I believe that there was a frame modification to allow clearance for the now external filter.

    Final Drive swap

I could be wrong but, I believe that the difference between the Venture and Vmax pumpkins is that the Vmax has a 10 tooth pinion drive, and the Venture has a 9 tooth...

    Did I ruin this?

Sorry Sean, no slight intended. I just remember DINGY from the Venture Riders forum and he seems very knowledgeable. A couple of the guys over there adapted the V-boost to their 2nd Gen Ventures, I think DINGY was one of them but I can't remember for sure...my little gray cells are getting more...

    Did I ruin this?

Okay, here's a shot in the dark. I looked at the parts diagrams on Partzilla for the 1990 Yamaha XVZVenture and the part number for Carb#3 is 1NL-14903-02-00, The 1990 VMax Carb #3 is 2WF-14903-02-00. If the first three characters are only model designators, you might have an alternate source...

    cop harness

I bought a set of COPs last year from Jon Harris, on the VMOA forum and have had no issues with them. They came with connectors which plugged right into the OEM wiring loom on my '02.
