This bike looks incredible! This is the first time I have seen a Vmax platform as a possible cafe racer. The bike pictured here looks like something of a straight up street fighter bike, and totally looks like a riot to ride!

Are you talking about the hand controls, or the forward mounted foot controls on the bike in the photo?

I would also look at a bad sending unit. Or the plug connection at the sending unit.

To me, it looks like the rubbers on the backside of this intake cover...one on each side.

Pilot (idle) jets are plugged, simple as that. Although once you are into the float bowls to clean those, it could easily be as nasty as the pics in this thread.

Thanks for the link, I appreciate it. The taillight is from a Honda V65 Magna. I trimmed off the black outer housing, then modified the V-max bracket & it looks like it was born there! :) I never cared much for the stock V-max taillight. Here's a couple photos from Ebay...
