    Connecting new speedometer

The speed cancelling function only works after 10 seconds and only if the bike is moving. Personally I have never found it much use because it's quite obvious when the indicators are on due to the console light. 10 seconds is a long time to be riding with an indicator that should have been...

    New horn

Car and bike horns have been stuck in the stone age for about 70 years now since the rubber squeezy bulb went out of style. It's time the manufacturers came out with a modern good looking efficient replacement.

2003 Vmax 24,xxx miles Odd Neutral switch behavior.

Intermittent faults can be a nightmare. I would pull all the covers off and carefully examine the wiring. Particularly around fuse holders and connectors and for chafing against the chassis. Use proper switch cleaner and not WD40. There is no easy answer and without being there in person to see...

    Hey

Well done. Keep it below 5000rpm until you get accustomed to it.

1985 first generation V-Max carb question

You could try putting half a bottle of Redex in the petrol tank and running it through for 100miles to see if it cleans it . If not then the carbs will have to come out.

    Corrosion question

ACF 50 is the stuff to use. It leaves an invisible film and protects the metal for a long time. DO NOT USE WD40. Its not a lubricant and doesn't leave a protective

Vmax gen 1 Pulls forward shifting from neutral to first gear

My Vmax and Suzuki gsx650 both give a kick when shifting into gear with a cold engine but once the engines are warmed up it doesn't happen. It may just be a design thing. Sticking plates when the oil is cold.

    Looking at a 2006 Vmax

The seat seems ok for me on my stock bike. (I'm 5ft6 tall.) My only complaint with the throttle grip is that you have to twist it a long way, but then again, it's not really a sports bike. It's about 46F here in Boston UK.

    Corrosion question

Do not use WD 40. It,s not a lubricant and offers no protection. I use an aerosol spray called ACF 50. It gives long term protection to the metal.

    Help Carb Sync

Make sure that your meters are correct by switching lines when the engine is running to see if the correct pressures transfer to the meters that you swap over. Some of these gauge kits ( especially the blue ones from China) are not very accurate.

Developed a lot of deceleration popping… With no changes to machine

My Norton Commando used to pop like hell due to air leaks at the exhaust flanges.

Thinking of selling my 2001 VMax

It would go for £7000 here in UK.

Battery Problem to Watch Out For (Possible Time Saver)

When checking voltage always measure when the circuit is under load because any poor contacts will cause a volt drop but may check as OK if no current is flowing.

No power to starter, found problem

Electrical connectors get hot when there is resistance due to poor contact. Make sure they are clean and tight then they shouldn't get hot.

    Should I?

I'm also 69 here in UK .I'm 5ft5 and weigh 145lbs. Had mine for 8 months with 20,000miles on clock. Paid £7000. You need to take the seat, dummy tank, side panels off and check condition of wiring etc. especially around the battery. Listen for any knocking when engine hot. With the engine cold...

    Looking at a 2006 Vmax

I have a small stock windscreen and am thinking of fitting a bigger one so it looks ok to me.

    TOOL BOX

I bought a small bag from ebay and put in as many useful tools than I could think of (10mm spanner, adjustable spanner, hex wrenches, screwdriver , cutters etc.) and fitted it under the seat. You can't do a lot at the side of the road but it's better than nothing.

    Reserve Fuel switching

A voltage passes through the res. bulb on the dashboard and goes to the level sensor and the pump control. When the level sensors resistance changes it drops the voltage and causes the light to glow. It also stops the fuel pump controller from operating the pump so you have to over ride this...
