    removing throttle cable/carbs

Okee dokie, so I FINALLY got my carb rebuild kits in (I still need to order some new diaphram rubbers though...). Anyways, I was excited as hell to pull the carbs off but of course reality smacked me in the face. How in the hell do I get the throttle cable off?! Anyone have some pics? Also, how...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

I'm going to try to get a torx security bit tomorrow to get that dang carb cover off. Quick question guys, now I fully expect to have to rip the carbs apart this winter and completely go through them and synch them, BUT can I rip the cover off and clean the internals of 1-2 carbs and not have to...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

OK time for an update. Well, I took the fake tank and scoops off and tried to start her up. Fuel was flushing out from the carb vent lines. I took off the fuel line from the carb bodies (only the right side, left side is fine) and spray carb cleaner in, with the drain fully open on the other...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

Well I went to Lowes today and found in their clearance cart, 12 gauge braided copper wire. It was quite a few feet long but at only $4 for the whole thing, what the hell. Came home, pushed through the fuel outlet and........... Success!!! I could blow air in and even managed to hear my bike...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

Well I rebuilt the front brake master cylinder and bled it, the clutch slave cylinder and bled it, changed the oil, changed the coolant, changed the fuel filter and replaced the lines going from tank to fuel filter, and from fuel filter to fuel pump. I bought some wire, unfortunately what I...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

I've already learned a ton on this site.... I mean sadly enough as it is to admit I wouldn't have even been able to tell you what a master cylinder is, let along rebuilt it. So I owe this site a lot. I can definitely NOT blow into the tank. I even tried putting a bicycle pump up to it and it...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

Sorry, this IS my first time at the mechanic rodeo, what is the tip-over valve. I'm going to go out and try to disconnect the top hose and see what happens.

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

There is no movement of anything when I tried to pull liquid up by mouth. It feels like there isn't even an opening on the other end

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

I hear the pump clicking away when I turn it on, so that part is running (and I'm assuming working). For filling the line, can I literally just put a little gasoline in the fuel line? Like with a syringe or something? What kind of wire/line could I use to try to unclog the tank if it is clogged...

    Can't draw fuel from tank...

OK so I'm in the process of trying to bring my dad's old vmax back to life... and I was hoping today was the day I'd get'er started back up! Turns out I was wrong. The bike can't draw fuel out of the tank... I'm not sure why, but I even disconnected the fuel filter and tried to draw some by...

Leak - Clutch Push Rod - 85 max

I've got an 85 and I literally replaced the push rod oil seal a day or two ago. It's in there, or at least it should be. Pull off that slave cylinder, pull out the push rod, and whammo there should be a piece of rubber coated metal that you can pry out. Mine literally was so corroded and...

attacking my slave cylinder, quick question

see original post, got a new question and didn't want to waste space by starting a new thread!

attacking my slave cylinder, quick question

Yeah, with the front brake master cylinder I didn't quite realize the whole lubrication thing, ended up putting a small tear in one of the rubber seals. Luckily it's not affecting anything at this point, but we'll see in the future. Oh well, at least I know how to do it now. Thanks for the help...

attacking my slave cylinder, quick question

OK, I'm going to admit my complete mechanic noobness, but this is the same oil that I'll be adding in when I do an oil change right? In that case no biggie as the bike is drained anyways... and it'll stay that way till I figure out how to get the stuck oil filter cover bolt off. Well, I just...

attacking my slave cylinder, quick question

Slave cylinder, new question, destroyed pushrod oil seal... OK, I redid the slave and I'm hoping it'll work alright... only problem is I decided to replace the pushrod oil seal (which wasn't leaking for all I could tell). So I started trying to pry the seal out ANNNNNND ripped the fricking...

Questions about bringing an 85 back to life...

I will definitely take your advice on the fuel filter, the LAST thing I want is to add more crap into my carbs/engine. On that note, I peeked at the filter and it appears there is some clean looking fuel in it. I just bought a 3-part tank restore kit online and when it gets here I'm going to...

Questions about bringing an 85 back to life...

I'll double check, but I think I saw 1074.... Anyways, I've got some good news! Shoved the battery in and turned the engine over.... sounded great! So that's not seized which is good news. I tried to be lazy and just added brake fluid to the clutch and bled it, unfortunately it didn't really...

Questions about bringing an 85 back to life...

haha, I've got like 3 fire extinguishers! (this house is prepared for explosions and fires....). Funny, all the stuff I ordered from ebay is already delivered, mind you it all came from out of state (Cali I believe). Yet the company IN Michigan just sent the parts out today.... I ordered...
