    First bike/mods

Regarding my gas statement, I'm getting about 97 - 100 miles before my warning light comes on. We run them fairly hard, but not often for extended stretches. Does this mean that I'm that far out of tune? I know I'm not getting 40 mpg for sure, probably a hair more than 30. Thanks.

    First bike/mods

Welcome! The stock fork brace is weak. I added the UFO and it seemed to help steady the front out some at higher speeds. As you will see, the Max eats gas like crazy. I wouldn't want the boost on all of the time. You can get the switch to have it come on at 3k instead of 6k. Earlier than...

How does your vmax handle on the twisties??

First thing I did was drag bars and the UFO fork brace. Waiting on frame braces from a fabricator. Adding progressive fork springs. Having ridden sport bikes for 15 years, it handles better than I had expected. A friend put Shinkos on and said it really improved his lean capability. I'll do that...

Bargain hunter looking for a solution

Can you strip and paint on the pipes you have? If you like the stock exhaust, you may want to look on eBay for the black set. Those are nice, but more expensive than the typical chrome ($100 or less). Otherwise, save yourself almost 30 lbs of weight and get some supertrapps to bump up that growl!

Please say a prayer for my buddy...

Thoughts & prayers. Get better in V-Boost fashion and get back on those TN twisties, Nathan.

Need to replace my front tire--HELP

Anyone know if I can fit a Shinko 120 up front? What about changing the profile as well? My buddy loves the Shinko T230 rear so I'm going to try out a set. He's taking turns much harder and with more confidence.

Charity Ride Advice for Lost Stepson

Hey Floridamax - Thanks for posting the link. I've actually seen this site before during my own surfing. I think I'll try to set it up for the one year anniversary in May. That allows for the holidays to pass and gives me time to figure it all out. Thanks, again.

    Exhaust Upgrade?

Check this out too. Just found it if you're interested in the black set. Forgot to mention that you'll drop about 28 lbs too. That always helps. http://www.jcmotors.com/p-6623-supertrapp-megaphone-series-black-slip-on-motorcycle-exhaust-system-for-yamaha-v-max-85-07.aspx

    Exhaust Upgrade?

If you watch eBay diligently enough, you may find a set for around $200-$250. I swapped a friend my sissy bar and luggage rack for his used set. New - you're looking at about $400 for the black ones (on eBay now), though I'm told they rust out after time. I believe that the stainless steel...

    Exhaust Upgrade?

I'm swapped stock pipes out for Supertrapps and love the sound. I've done nothing else but put on straight bars, removed the "Y" on the airbox and of course added the fork brace. The discs make a BIG difference when you start adjusting the counts. I'm getting performance from 8 discs per...

Post your fastest VMAX E/T 1/8 or 1/4

I don't have my slips handy, but I'm running pretty consistently in the 1/8 (all I've got near by). My 60' times suck and that's all there is to it. If you can't get that, you've got nothing. I actually got better times before I changed out the stock exhaust and was heavier. Need to tune some...

Charity Ride Advice for Lost Stepson

I appreciate all the kind words. I've spoken with another rider who's a member of ABATE down here. I'm going to pursue that possibility. If I can get it together, I'll post it out here for anyone who's close enough to check it out. I'd love to have a fleet of MAXES rolling through! Thanks.

Charity Ride Advice for Lost Stepson

Afternoon all - I want to put together a charity ride for my stepson (really my long time girlfriend's son) who was shot and killed due to a senseless act outside of a restaurant back in May. He had served a tour in Iraq. I had taught him how to ride and got him his first and only bike - 1997...

170 tire and washer swap questions

I'm between the Shinko and the Metz. My buddy just put the Shinko on and it is soft and sticky. I like to lean the bike and need more rubber (170). Is there a clear difference in quality, performance that anyone can atest to? Thanks.

    Handlebars

Does anyone have a suggestion about what to change the handlebars to? I'm looking at black drag bars - width 28 -1/8", pullback 3 -3/4", rise 0", center 5 -1/2". My back bothers me to sit totally upright and the stock bars are too narrow and tall for me. Thanks.

The tire/tyre thread! Widest and best?

Re: Widest tire on stock rear wheel Looks really nice! Not gonna throw that kind of $$$ at the Max right now. Restoring another older bike first. My Max actually handles better than I expected now that I've gotten more used to it. Furbur fix happening today and contemplating frame braces as...

    Kerker K Slip-ons?

I have an opportunity to pick up "next to new" Kerker slip-ons or brand new Jardine slip-ons. Having never heard either set in person, I'm not sure which way to go. The Kerkers look more bad ass. What would this group suggest? :ummm: Thanks

    recomendations on rear tires

Getting a lot of good info on this thread - thx. Seems to me that the stock Bridgestone 150 is pretty good already (new to the Max, used to sport riding). I can get an aggressive lean if I hang off the bike. If the 880 is any stickier, Ill go with that and bump to the 170. Rim mods are...

    Riding instability

I'm new to the V-Max - used to sports. I'm experiencing instability over 100 all the way to 130. I had to back off at that point because it got scary. Not tank slapping, but more of an overall waver. I did the bouce test and it is loose. Going to tighten things up according to the furbur...
