Thanks but since I've had the bike I've done all of the maintenance required on it and it is in perfect condition, runs perfect too. I'm in Arizona so I ride it every week. I like it, I'm just going to keep it or I know I would kick myself in the ass later. I was going to sell it to fund another...
The backfiring problem pretty much went away when I replaced the little cover on top of the air cleaner (it was missing when I got the bike) and put a new fuel filter on.
Thanks, I'll do that when I get a chance. The covers were off of the idle mixture screws but I suspect that's all they've done to the carbs. It will be interesting to compare my needle to the ones in your photo.
I changed the plugs and air filter right after I got it, a week ago. The plugs looked good a tan color, no black at all (maybe running lean). Haven't gotten to the fuel filter yet or peered into the tank with a light. Will be doing that soon. I got an oil filter for it will be changing that soon...
Well it's not popping then, it backfires out of the exhaust pipe and not while rapidly decelerating. More when accelerating or running at at steady rpm in the midrange. Haven't been able to detect any exhaust or vacuum leaks although I wouldn't completely rule that out. Thanks for the input.
I have a 2001 with a Kirker 4 into 1. I don't know any of the history on the bike but my suspicion is that they never rejetted the carbs after they bolted on the pipes. I will do a compression test and check valve lash when I get around to it but just want to ride it for now. It has 27,000 miles...
You know when I was shopping on Amazon I would have ordered a new front tire to match the rear but in the Pirelli MT66 Route line of tires they didn't have a 110/90/18, only a 100/90/18. Question: do you think a 100/90/18 would be too skinny on the front of a VMax or it really wouldn't make...
I believe the Michelin tire on front is dated 2012 but you know what? It looks good to me so I'll ride on it for awhile longer. I don't know much about the laws here in Arizona but I do know helmets are not required here. How about that? Also you can walk into a Department store with a loaded...
