Thinking about buying one of the cheap tachometer/speedometers ebay but concerned on the accuracy of both readings. I know at lesat a couple of people here are running them, care to comment ?

If you need a seal driver, I found a piece of exhaust pipe from the local auto part store fit around the fork perfectly. Don't remember the size but it's common and on the shelf, just bring the fork in and find one that fits. Little bit of duct tape around the edge to prevent it from biting into...

Oil light and reserve light turns on when the starter button is pressed. I knew I was low on gas so I assumed the reserve light was on from the tank sensor verus the button. Filled the tank, light still on, wiggled the wiring a bit and everything back to normal.

It was an issue with the starter button.

On all the time, acceleration or just sitting idle.

Noticed the oil level light come on as I was coming home today, pulled over to take a look at the sight glass as it was within range. Continued home, filled oil to the top mark and the light is still on. Any ideas other than a bad sensor?

I stay in gear until I've got a stopped car behind me, then switch to neutral if I know it'll be a while before I get a green.

While I'm against a lot of driver/rider aids (paddle shift cars, auto revmatch downshifts, etc.), ABS I'm for. Modern systems allow you to brake right on slip threshold of the tires, consistently, which even a professional can't do. Watch a MotoGP or F1 race and see how many times they lock up...

Does the Vmax have one?

Nope, no effect from the clutch. Listening to it again, it might be coming from the crankcase and not the cylinder. I would think possibly a spun bearing, but since it seems to go away (or more like get quieter) when the engine warms up I'm not sure...

98 Vmax, 18,000 miles, getting a tapping/knocking like noise on cold starts that goes away once warm. Increases with RPM. Almost sounds like the noise a sticky hydraulic lifter makes in a pushrod motor. Possible I need valve adjustment? As far as I know, it's never been done on this bike.

Anyone with a Givi top case on their Vmax? I read that nobody makes mounting brackets, but I'm thinking if I'm willing to sacrifice the rear seat it shouldn't be too hard to fab something up to work?

Same. I usually put a rag so that I don't get rings on my hands from where I'm pushing down on the carb. It's usually easier if the rubber is warm, but even if I've had the carbs out for a few days I can still usually just seat them using my hand.
