Bike suddenly won't start. Any checklist to follow to troubleshoot?

Thanks guys.. The fuel pump seems to work. It makes a fuel pump sound when I turn on ignition. Checking the sparks with a new plug, it does seem a little weak from my untrained eyes. The sparks are not bright blue sparks. I have also replaced all 4 plugs. and upon checking them, they do seem...

Bike suddenly won't start. Any checklist to follow to troubleshoot?

Hi, Sorry, I know this question might've been asked a lot. But searching this forum throws me everywhere. I'm just looking for an easy troubleshooting checklist to follow for my 1992 Vmax. Just in case I miss something trivial. My bike used to be very easy to start. Just a little flick on the...

    hand grips

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I did some measurement with my vmax handlebar and seems like if you just want to replace the rubber grip on the right hand side the diameter should be 1"? (The left side is 7/8") It is 7/8" if you measure the handlebar without the throttle mechanism (not sure...

    Buying hand grips from ebay

I'm confused now because I found a pair of 7/8" on ebay that say they won't fit Vmax. However, I also find another pair with 7/8" for the left, and 1" for the right hand side that says will fit a vmax. Does 1996 vmax 1200 use different diameter for left and right?

    Buying hand grips from ebay

Thank you guys... Is there anything else, other than 7/8" diameter, that I should look for in buying a grip for my vmax 1200? Would any 7/8" always fit my Vmax? Regards, *EDIT* So I tried to buy another pair. This time it's a 7/8" diameter. But, this time when I ask if they will fit, the...

    Buying hand grips from ebay

Looking at their page: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/3798/ISO-Grips I don't see VMax as listed as compatible. Are you sure it'll fit?. Anyways, turns out they don't ship to where I live.

Low battery just left me stranded

In my case, even after doing the crimp fix and making sure the battery is good, I was still having hot start problem. The starting problem went away after I did the starter fix (clean the wires, add ground point etc).

I've seen vmax using that style of handle bar. I wonder where he got it from.

    Buying hand grips from ebay

Thank you Elimax. The seller do admit after being confronted that this handle indeed does not fit. Fortunately I haven't sent the payment. Thanks.

    Buying hand grips from ebay

Hi, I'm trying to buy this hand grip from ebay for my 92 Vmax: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Non-slip-Hand-Grips-1-Handlebar-Chrome-For-Yamaha-V-Max-Vmax-V-Max-VMX-1200-/131214962969?pt=AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e8d057119 But I'm rather confused because the (seemingly) same item...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Thank MaxMidnight, but what do you mean by smelling fuel in the oil? What oil? You mean the plug, yes, I can smell the fuel on the plug. I tested the bike today with the AF screw on #3 turn all the way in (0 turn), but still the plug looked black again. Other than idle problem, the bike runs...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Thank you, I have another picture, taken as soon as I pull the plug out. So this one looks a bit wet. But I know I really need to learn to take a better picture. Not sure you can see the detail. The difference with the pictures on plug chart (thanks DMAN999) is that my plug looks smooth (the...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Thank you Steve, The plug does have a dry sooty look, but if I use my finger to rub it, it certainly leaves skid marks on my finger. It doesn't seem to have an oily appearance, but I didn't use it for a long time, just a 10-20 minutes ride.. Maybe not enough time to make it really look oily...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Hi guys, Here's an update on what I did on cyl/carb#3 , so far: - Did the shotgun again. Looks clean and not plugged - Check the spark: is good - Check wet float level (clear hose trick): 17 mm below the line. (good?) Here's what I got. Basically problem persists. Same: - Black #3 plug (even...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Thanks.. I manage to do the peashooter and shotgun, that was fairly easy. Now I'm reading and learning my way to open up and disassemble the carb. And to check float height. But reading about it, float height seems like a different beast... I'm a bit intimidated.. There's no easier way...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Yeah. I'm going to check the spark again. I did check it before I replaced the wire and the caps. The old wire+caps were bad and the spark was weak (yellow). But I havent checked it again with the new caps+wire. My mistake, I just assume spark is ok now after I replaced the wire and caps...

    Help. Diagnosing problem carb? Plug?

Thanks... I guess I'm going to have to learn to do just that (disassemble). I found naughtyG guide with lots of pics (thank u Dannymax). I'd just want to make sure and rule out that it's not electrical. The other plugs looks OK, just looks a little bit on the white side. So I have turned...
