    R1 regulator location

The pickup has a big block 540, dynoed at 695 hp. Rear end is a 9" ford with an adjustable 4 link but i can't get it to hook up that great. Time in the quarter is slower than a Vmax but the speed crossing the line is higher. Need to try better tires. Right now they are 345/55R15 BFGoodrich...

    R1 regulator location

Here is a pic of my bike and pickup. IF i could get the pickup to hook up it would be faster than the Vmax.

    R1 regulator location

I decided to put it in the stock location behind the rear left foot peg. Made a bracket that keeps it tucked up there as it is not visible. Thanks for all the advice!!

    R1 regulator location

I have heard of people put it above the battery but I am not sure that would be good enough. I also thought about the rear finder and am sure it would stay cool there, just a little concerned about safety there. Humm..

    R1 regulator location

Last year I put in an R1 voltage regulator and stuck it under the passenger seat. The regulator went bad and was distroying batteries. I replaced it today and after a short ride I took the seat off and the regulator was already way too hot to handle. Got to find a better place to put it but...

Just needed someone to talk to....

Three months isn't that bad (sarcastic). I made a deal with the local body shop owner. He was going to paint my pickup and I built a room in his shop, then insulated and sheet rocked it all. I worked on his shop every day after my regular job and on weekends for almost two months until it...

    What's this worth?

If I had to choose between a good looking bike with mechanical problems and a mechanically good bike with cosmetic issues I would take the good runner any day. Cosmetics are much easier and more fun to fix. Plus that way you get to make the bike look how you want. I would give Sean a call if...

    My very first bike....

My first bike was an 83 V65 magna I bought from a friend when I was 24. Since I have got a Kz1000, 185 cc Yamaha exciter, 86 Fazor, another V65, and now my V-max. The only bike I bought that was running when I bought it was the first V65. I am a sucker for project bikes. Am currently...

    Fuel pump relay

Is the fuel pump relay the same for all years of the V-max? Mine is an 85. I can't find it on the parts diagrams.

Had to push it home again..

The pump is running but not pulling fuel from the tank. I actually do have problem with my fuel sender circuit. The fuel pump will only come on when I have it on reserve. I haven't got around to fixing it yet because I have been working on finding the cause on this other problem. Maybe it...

Had to push it home again..

I will try that video inspection tool. Have a friend I can borrow one from. When I first started working on this bike one of the first things I checked from was rust in the tank. Saw some light surface rust but not much. Rode the bike for about 10 miles this morning without problems but I am...

    G-Tech Accelerometer

I have one. It is fun and good for measuring performance upgrades. I have never put it in one of my bikes though. Thing is they just tempt you to get crazy on whatever you are driving. Going to the track is much safer..

Had to push it home again..

Still fighting this. I checked the diaphragms on the pump, they were fine. I also replaced the fuel lines and tightened up the hose clamps since I first posted. I am leaving the roll over valve unhooked to eliminate the possibility of that causing the problem. The only thing that hasn't been...

Had to push it home again..

I checked the fuel lines and filter for cracks already. Will try putting tighter hose clamps on my fuel lines on the suction side. If that doesn't do it I will take the pump apart. I am guessing it is probably not the pump since it was happening on the old pump as well as the new one.

Had to push it home again..

It is a new stock pump, one week old. It will pressure up and stop fine usually. Same thing was happening with the old pump.

Had to push it home again..

I have been fighting this for a while. Every now and then my bike has been bogging down and dieing, usually after getting on the throttle hard. I finally noticed that when it happens the fuel pump is somehow loosing prime. When I turn the key on it pumps but will not pressure up. Took the...

    Best mod you ever did?

Off subject a little but two mods I WISH my Vmax had was a gear indicator and a garage door opener.

Not a mechanic and having issues!

Sounds like stuck floats. Not sure why the tach is jumping around.

I'm a Hypocrite... Got my new Vmax!!!!!

You could try just getting some case savers/ highway bars. That would give you a second place to put your feet. Then get Sean Morley to make your seat better, he lives in America! Also suggest some jeans and shoes.
