The funny thing was that when I turned 16, he didn't want me riding a big motorcycle....so it wasn't until I was 28 when I bought my first real streetbike, a 1984 CB700SC Nighthawk S....

I still have the 85 Vmax, the Rune, and the 09 Vmax - loving every riding minute of them all.

A Cyclone I think those were called. The three popular open-class enduro bikes of the day were the 360 Yamaha, the Kawasaki 350 Bighorn, and the Suzuki 400 Cyclone, all pretty-evenly-matched. Honda had nothing except for a 250 four-stroke.

I bought a new RT-2 360 Enduro Yamaha in May 1972 which I still have. Yes a lot of numbing vibes at higher revs but what what fun to ride! I liked hillclimbing the best in SW MI sand & gravel pits. Wasn't my 1st, (it was my second, both bought by me-no parental 'gifts') but one I held-onto. Here is a shot at an enduro in SW MI in 1972 on the 360 Yamaha, I used-to pull all the lights off to go racing on weekends, and then re-install the lights to ride to work on Monday. The hillclimbing shot is on the 305 Scrambler, which taught me about riding in the dirt, and I recall how-amazed I was at having an agile, powerful bike (the 360 Yamaha) after riding that heavy tank of a 305 Honda, but the 305 did teach me the basics of dirt riding and motorcycle maintenance. I had the 305 for one year, and next spring I sold the 305 for more-than I paid for it. I bought the 360 new, and promptly began racing on it in MI, hare-scrambles and enduros, for the rest of the year, until I moved to FL during the next winter.

well that second bike pic didn't work so here it is again, this was my second bike it was pretty fast but boy being a single cylinder 400 2 stroke your arms went numb real quick !

Here are a couple pics of one like my DT250, purchased for $476 at age 16. I was so proud that I earned it all myself washing dishes and pumping gas. Those were the days!

Doublepost!
Sorry.
well that second bike pic didn't work so here it is again, this was my second bike it was pretty fast but boy being a single cylinder 400 2 stroke your arms went numb real quick !

My first bike was an 84 Honda nighthawk 700S, my second bike was a 82 Yamaha Seca 750, my third bike was a Honda Saber v45 I shared with my dad as a project, my fourth bike was an 06 Yamaha FZ6 (which I crashed) and now I have my 93 VMAX (which I'll never sell ever)

My first bike (a 50cc Yamaha FS1E) started my affair with most things Yamaha. I strayed a couple of times but always came back into the fold eventually. Next was a Yamaha RS100, then an RD250 all 70's vintage. Moved over to a Kawasaki 900 Z1B followed by a brief hiatus until I landed on a Suzuki RG500 Gamma. Then it was another Yamaha, an FJ1200 until I moved here to the USA in 1995. Another gap in biking was cured by a ratty GS650 Suzuki and then a 1979 XS1100, a Honda Shadow 1100 (hated the bloody thing) and finally on to my current 2007 Gen 1 V max. There were a lot of other bikes when I was to young for the road, BSA's, a Triumph, a Norton Commando and several small Francis Barnetts. Some of the oldies must be worth a mint these days but who knew back in the 70's ?

Chris.

1st STREET bike for me was a Honda V45 Magna, acquired after I graduated college, followed by a Yamaha XV 1000, Then three different V65 Magna's, then the Vmax I have now. And a Honda XR650L thrown in for good measure.

1st bike (unofficially because I had to hide them from my parents) was a Yamaha YZ100, followed by a Yamaha TT250.

My parents hated motorcycles and wouldn't allow them since I had a cousin severely injured on a dirt bike.....I hid the dirt bikes at a friends house and really didn't get to ride them that much...

My first bike was an 83 V65 magna I bought from a friend when I was 24. Since I have got a Kz1000, 185 cc Yamaha exciter, 86 Fazor, another V65, and now my V-max. The only bike I bought that was running when I bought it was the first V65. I am a sucker for project bikes. Am currently working on getting an 81 CB900 running for a friend.

My first bike was a 68 honda 450 dohc that only ever ran on starting fluid once, lol. I was 14 and didnt know dick about bikes back then, lol.

I learned to ride on my dad's 1983 Honda XL200R:

First bike I bought was a 1997 Yamaha RT100:

First road bike I bought was a 1985 Yamaha Virago 1000, eerily compatible with the Vmax:

Then the 88 Max:

Memories indeed:

First up for me was a Yamaha GT 80

Then it was a big jump up to a KDX 175

Then staying with the endoro's I grabbed a KDX 200

Time for a change I went to 4 wheels - quadracer 250R

Then onto my current 4 wheeler - Polaris Scrambler 400

My first street bike was a gem - a 2000 SV650...wish I still had it!

Then I left riding for awhile and when I got back into it I chose the Honda Shadow 1100

All great machines in their own right...but I have a special place in my heart for my Max!!!

Hey Rusty,

Looks like we had the same first bike, basically. Mine was from Sears. It was the source of some of my favourite motorcycle memories.
