I absolutely love my '96 vmax, and id love to restore it, maybe even get it bored a bit. Seems like not a lot of places want to work on old bikes around me. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to take it where they will truly show some love to this bike?

Thanks for the replies guys! i guess this weekend ill go ahead and pull the carbs off and fully clean them and check the bowls. if the cylinders arent firing correctly, what could be causing that? im sure lots of things, but what would be a common cause i should say. valves maybe?? i do have...

The acceleration is severely lacking. So is power. It struggles to hit 70 mph and stay there. I have to wind through all the gears to get up there, and if i really push it on a downhill slope, it can reach 100 mph but it isnt happy one bit. as far as i know, shes mostly stock

So, I got my first vmax a few months ago. Had some issues and I've ironed them out quite a bit. BUT one glaring issue im having is it is SLOW. If im going down the interstate, going 70 mph, I have to be all the way in 5th gear and sitting around 5000 rpm. Any ideas? Possibly a vacuum leak maybe?

Thanks for all the info! My long term goal is to supercharge it and take it to a drag strip. Is that as bad of an idea as i think?

Just bought my first vmax. 1996 1200cc. Needs some serious TLC. The vboost doesnt want to kick on. Its backfiring after it gets hot, and wont run over 7k rpm. But itll get there.
