Think I need a new fuel sending unit?

I just got done with my gas tank and I looked at this thing... It looks like crap. Think I need a new one or could I just solder the thing shut?

Ya that looks bad. I am selling one from my spare tank, although looking closely it seems it has the same crack on the side - may it's normal?

I would try yours first, put just one gallon of gas in the tank and ride it, after less than 10 miles your fuel warning light should come on. If it does you're good, if not you can buy mine.

now that i think about it, i think it would be fine. There's those three holes at the top and I'm thinking that the gas would get in there and when the level gets below there the light would turn on. Maybe the cracks won't be a problem. We'll find out in 4 days when I can put gas in the tank.
