I always assumed that an individual jet was functioning at max flow, so if you increased the air flow (which is what pulls the gas through) you'll need bigger jets to let in enough fuel.
I've never differentiated between either mod - intake or exhaust, but I imagine exhaust has the largest...
Dave, that is a totally higher level of thinking!
I think what makes me a bit unsure is that these bikes are carburated... and air flow is what sucks the fuel out. From my experience with FI bikes it's easy - if you open it up you just need more gas to compensate for the increase in airflow...
Hey Dave,
With regards to the free-flowing exhaust I always thought it leaned the bike out as more air was going through the engine (same as opening up the intake) but maybe I'm missing something with the Vmax carbs.
Also, it seems you might be running rich at idle if you can fire it up...
Yeah I'd say a bike would need some serious upgrades to be able to do that. I've skidded the front tire once or twice and it hints at impossibility for a stock max. Heck, I've skidded the front tire on a 2006 MT01 and it has radials with USD forks.
Just got an offer of $7500 CDN for my 2006 Vmax (stock). Bike has ~7700kms, runs nicely, otherwise stock.
I like my bike, but that seems pretty good. What do you guys think? (keep in mind I'm a university student)
So do you guys really think I need the stronger clutch spring to run AMSOIL? I want to run it because I get it free, but don't want to turn in into a big hassel. Also don't want to burn up the clutch.
Well I'm not too concerned about the price - I'll get it for next to nothing. I have heard of some clutch issues with synthetic. Apparently it isn't an issue if you get oil with the correct specifications. We get a huge range in temperatures up here in canada, think 10-40 would be a good choice?
Hey guys,
My girlfriends boss is a big cheese at Amsoil and thinks I should be running it in my bike. Has anyone had any problems running this oil?
I'm running Motul 10-40 dino oil right now and was thinking of trying 10-40 amsoil synthetic (whichever one meets the Yamaha requirements).
Thanks!
Ahhh! I'm at just under 2200ft. here in Edmonton. When I got it it was super rich (floats too high) but looks like I can make some improvements with better jets. So, what size should I try? Also, what brand? Can I get them from Sean?
I'm 25. My vmax is an '06. I've been riding since before I hit double digits. Notable previous bikes include an Intruder 1400, and a MT01 with a stage III track kit.
That makes sense. The reason I wanted to check the wet level on the bench was just that - it's way easier to make corrections! 5PSI gives me an idea of what kind of presure I need. Thanks again.
I adjusted the float height on my '06 last summer - was way too high - using the bench method and measuring on the inside of the housing, but I'd like to check the actual fuel level. I tried to do this with the carbs on the bike but had no luck getting a consistent measurement.
So, how do you...
