Mass shooting in Ft Lauderdale airport

The shooter is in custody, There still under high alert/lockdown. The guy was in a uniform. They said his name, that was on the uniform, but no verification. An interesting point. they have the shooter. usually suicide, or death by police. Estabon Santiago was the name.

I just drove through the area by the airport, and had to detour miles to the west because of the near-gridlock. They shut-down the US 1 N-S route on the east side of the airport, they shut down I-595 headed east towards the airport regardless if you wanted to go north or south of the airport. I-595 skirts the north side of the airport. I think for awhile they shut-down I-95 going past the airport on its west side. All in all, it was a mess.

It sounds like the shooter tried to get help for his mental condition but was released. What a shame that the victims were defenseless. I've been through that airport many times, it's where I fly out of due to ease of use, usually. The last few years, I've always seen multiple Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) armed deputies, sometimes with rifles instead of just handguns. There are 4 terminals, each serving multiple airlines, and every one has multiple BSO deputies inside and out, all the time.

People involved with the Pulse nightclub shooting (victims or families, or friends) are supposedly trying to get some rifles banned in Florida.

Another chance for the gun-ban crowd to miss the root cause of these events . Anybody with even half a brain knows a cop is minutes , if not longer away , from something like this . At the very least , I'd like to be carrying or at least the guy sitting next to me so I have a chance in a situation like this .

All in all , a shitty day for people in the wrong place at the wrong time...can't figure out why FLL...it's a tourist hub with no military , religious or cultural issues that warranted this...:ummm:

Guess they just don't know. Still not ruling out terrorism apparently.

I think self-radicalization is probably more common than we know. Very sad for everyone.

Seems like in this case, there were about a 100 different red flags for authorities to know this guy had mental health problems including literally walking into a FBI office and saying his mind was being controlled by intelligence agencies.
